I have replaced my old ipod with a new one and when I connected it to the computer it told me to upgrade my QuickTime in order to use iTunes. I tried but it woud not complete as it said the old version was still on the computer. I have tried removing it through the add and remove programe but nothing happened. I then searched for all QuickTime files and was able to delete some but not all. I am stuck.
I am using Windows XP. It also highlighted another problem as I tried to restore the computer to an earlier date but it tells me it is unable to restore. I checked and I do have system restore enabled.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
I seem to recall we needed to go to "safe mode" and remove as many traces of quicktime as possible. Look in "all users", "administrator" "default user" "program files" and "windows" as well as each individual user for any files relating to QUICKTIME or ITUNES. I suggest removing as many traces of Itunes as while you are there. It may be possible to uninstall from safe mode add/remove programs, sorry I cant give you better info as it is some time since I did this and like you I was tearing my hair out trying to get quick time to work.
It may also be usefull to clean out "unused file extensions", "missing shared dll's" "application paths" etc and general registry integrity type stuff using CCleaner. Perhaps one of the more experienced geeks on A2K could comment on this.
I believe ITunes comes with compatible quicktime packaged so once you are done removing as much as possible download and re- install ITunes.
