Okay, well, you don't have to write them every day. The idea is just to celebrate the quirky, the normal, the dumb, the boring, whatever, of your everyday existence. And post more than once, if you wish. I don't mind.

I thought of this because, when we look at history we often know very little about how people actually lived. And that's because everyday, common, ordinary stuff is wordlessly understood. No one needs to explain or elucidate it, or even write it down.

So this can be a diary, or just a string of occurrences, or just something about brushing your teeth. Enjoy.

Late for Mack Sennett
A guy walks down Franklin Street
he has a banana peel in one hand
he's looking at his watch
and he walks faster
and whooshes by
like Laurel late for an urgent
appointment with a certain Mr. Hardy

Chilly house
heat kicks on and off
Sweatshirt goes on and off
Hot shower would be lovely
Maybe just a cup of tea
No, wait, iced
No, don't open the window
it's October
But a little hot flashing
lasts all year long

That's a great idea, jespah!

Lazy Sunday
could finish my book
or read the paper
someone needs to cook
laundry is piling up
just has to wait
lazy Sunday it is!

It's dark and sinuous here on the ocean,
Even the tide is still; no motion.
Only the shadows of finger like fronds,
Can be espied in my stagnant pond
That mirrors the dark of a restless night
and calls to the owl as he sweeps out in fright.

The local supermarket
Offers a discount
To Senior Citizens
Every Tuesday.

Every Tuesday
Thrifty Senior Citizens
Are shopping
Are socializing.

At the Deli Counter
A paunchy Lothario
Brags of his ill health.
Some widows listen.

Some widows are lonely.

NASA scientists have succeeded
Man can land on the moon.
Great inventions have been sold
Many more to come
Yet, has anyone proceeded
To ever find out - anytime soon,
A cure for the common cold?

I'm sneezing, coughing and aching
Like billions of people who have it every year
they suffer in silence, sniffle, and shiver
Is there something at all we could be taking?
Scientists listen to us, get in high gear,
Find a cure! Are we chopped liver!

The slow ebb and flow
of the sound
runs over my body
like a lover giving
and taking,
lifting me to places
I only dream
of being.

time to begin and start anew.
I have a lot of chores to do.
Cull through the closet
The things I can share
With someone in need
From one who's not there.

Just sorting through the laundry here
And stuffing ironing over there
Some current chores are on a chair
I must have a pencil here somewhere
If I don't send these vendors money
I 'll be garnished
Not with honey....
Dinner hour is rushing , Beans and spam?
Bake it with mustard and call it Hoover ham.

Every day, I see them on the bus
they see me, I suppose
Josef K. sits and hand-corrects a printed spreadsheet in a paranoid, cribbed hand
Madame Bovary comes on, with her sons Harry Potter and Huck Finn
Elizabeth Bennett and Jane Eyre snap gum and chat
A certain Doctor Henry Jekyll tries to catch their eye but loses out to the exuberant Willy Wonka
Willy Loman, exhausted, dials his cellphone. "Don? Yes, Mr. Quixote? I'll be late, sorry."
Olan leaves the good earth to go to Haymarket.
She smiles as Anna Karenina joins us, with Fern (holding a spider) and Alice Liddell. Alice flirts with young Harry Potter, red behind his glasses
Heathcliff and Catherine sit together and plan a wedding
while Bill Sykes pulls a complaining Oliver Twist in, "But I wanted more breakfast!"
All are presided over by the driver. Gandalf the Grey makes change and stamps bus passes, and expertly guides our fantasy chariot over the turnpike.

I really like this Jespah. Great concept for an everyday poem - taking an ordinary busride and infusing ordinary people with extraordinary characters - which is probably true in some cases.
