'Not To Worry'
(Notes to J.D., 6-12-03)
It's just
a little
unrequited
crush,
that's all.
Like a tiny
muscle ache
(in one you
had forgotten
that you had)
It's not your fault
of course,
That you are
undelighted,
nor my fault
that a certain
flame
Was not
ignited.
There'll be
a transient
awkwardness
at first,
(not bad)
and we'll be
sheepish,
Then we'll laugh
of course.
It hardly
hurts
at all,
Don't worry Dear,
The
crush
is very small,
though
deepish.

jjorge - I love this! especially the end.
Very nice!
I read it several times and liked it a little more each time!

Thank you. I almost called it 'Puncture Wound'.
Uh-oh... sounds like the affair is not going anywhere.
Your poem is a lovely thing, a cry from the heart. At least you can have the satisfaction of knowing you're joining with the best of them, Jjorge. It is a high note of poets to sing of unrequited love.
All the steps of mourning are here... from recognition, to sadness, and acceptance. You've done it all with a wonderfully light touch and a twinkle, a sad twinkle, in your eye.
Quote:And once again, and wiser in no wise,
I chase your colored phantom on the air,
And sob and curse and fall and weep and rise
EStVM
Had a tear in my eye by the end of it, jjorge.
What a touch you have...
Ya know, I get updates and each time I go back and re-read the poem and like it more. It just has a simple rhythm to it that I really like.
Thank you again!
Thanks for linking us back to this, morganwood.
Thank you for sharing this with us, jjorge. It rings very true, and is sweet and powerful at the same time.
Confession.
I have a special file hidden away in the back of my desk. For more than 25 years, I have placed meaningful things in there...some happy, some sad, some from special friends...but always profound things. I take them out and reread them when I need encouragement. The file is now about six inches thick. There are cards, letters, e-mails, pressed flowers, ribbons, drawings, all sorts of things in there.
Today, I am adding your poem, jjorge.
jjorge, it's wonderful!! Wonderful. (OK, Morganwood, I see what you're getting at.)

You are very kind.
Eva,
I'm honored.
jjorge, I'm sorry it didn't work out. You do have a wonderful way of expressing yourself. I don't know about you, but it helps me when I'm feeling down to write about it, whether it be poetry or a letter to someone, even if I don't send it (and I usually don't). I hope you're feeling okay, and I also hope you will find someone special in the near future

Discovered your poem via Morganwood's link.
I liked it very much. A touching, understated, almost wry response to one of life's disappontments. <sigh>
You do express yourself beautifully, jjorge!
Husker, Chatoyant, Msolga,
Thank you.
