Anti-Virus Scans

In march of this year, I upgraded my system and the Norton Anti-virus System Works. At first the scans showed it scanned over 50,000 files. I was pleased with this number, but now it is increasing each time it scans my computer. The Norton System works also detects and deletes spyware, but it mentions nothing of adware. Could these increases be due to adware being attached to my computer? I once had installed Aluria adware/spyware elimiator, but for the cost and efficiency, I discontinued the subscription.

If these additional files (now 65,000 files being scanned) are adware, is there an effective MANNUAL method to delete them without harming other files on my computer?

note: before upgrading and recovering my computer my scan was showing over 126,000 files. I do not surf the internet, but I do access a few sites and read the news.

thanks in advance

If your Norton is up to date and properly configured, odds are you're fine. Its just a consequence of using a computer that files build up - that's the way it goes. You can do a manual cleanup of unnecessary files, but here are a couple simple-to-use, free apps that will do it for you.

Cleanup4! - Small download, small footprint, super easy to use, pretty thorough, not many features.

CCleaner - More powerful, a little more nit-picky to set up and use, but still easy - does lotsa stuff - read and understand the documentation before doing anything with it other than cleanups.

tnx Timberlandko

I will check into these and see what is best for my system. If the growing number of files is really nothing to worry about, I may want to wait on doing anything because I have learned also in the past that when a computer is toooooo clean....pages and the like take longer to load until temp files are attached. Some of this process I understand, but I am still learning.

tnx again
