During the 1936 Olympics, Jesse Owens was so popular in Germany, he could have been elected mayor of any German city. I saw him once, speaking during a Harlem Globetrotter game, a very charming fellow.

Jesse Owens, the four-time Olympic gold medalist at the 1936 Olympics is a Berlin legend. Now his grand-nephew hopes to continue the Owen family's legacy as a player on the ALBA Berlin profession basketball team.

Having just arrived in Berlin two weeks ago, the former University of Texas-Austin player has already put himself on the trail of his famous relative.

Jesse Owens Allee -- a street in western Berlin's Charlottenburg district -- commemorates the sporting legend, as does the Jesse-Owens lounge in the city's Olympic stadium, which only recently hosted the final of the World Cup soccer championships.
