This game is an interesting concept that I originally heard of from a different forum. I'm brand new here and apologize if this is something you've already heard of or have been doing for some time now.

Basically, you pick a book of your choosing (fantasy seems to work best for me) and randomly pick two words by flipping through pages and pointing with your eyes closed. You then have to use these two words and incorporate them into a short story. Enjoy! Smile

Here are some of the ones I've done:

Angels and Notable

Lucky me right? This makes me think of a little boy, praying at night for his dear old mom. The little boy, Jacob, has started noticing oddities with his mother. The strawberry-red of her cheeks has faded now and only coldness remains. The boy looks up now and imagines an Angel staring back at him from the heavens above. Jacob wishes with all his might that his mom gets better and that one day he might be able to see that twinkle of light in her eyes when she looks at him with her warm smile. That night as Jacob was about to head to bed a blinding light beamed down upon the house and a heavenly aura emitted. Jacob could hear his dad exclaiming "What is happening, what's going on!" Only little Jacob knew and he smiled and pulled up his covers, sleeping, knowing that everything would turn out right.

Tower and Abominations.

This makes me think of a society of Abominations that live by a winding river. The river is naturally brown and the grey moss-like ground soaks up the water of the river, making it look more like a stain on the earth then an actual river. This river just happens to be by a monstrous tower made up of three distinct blocks each with their own ancient symbol on them. One symbol resembles a spearhead. Another resembles the upper part of the female Abominations. The highest and most holy of all the symbols bears a resemblance to the curved nose ring the King Abomination, Baldror, wears to show his superiority among the other Abominations. The Abominations, with their stupidity and lack of insight think the tower is a golden spear thrown down from the heavens by their god Baby John or, when referred to by the other gods, "Snuggywuggums".

In reality, the tower is a bunch of ABC blocks stacked upon each other, the river is spilled apple juice, the grey moss-like ground is rug, the god "Snuggywuggums" is a baby and the other gods are his parents, the abominations are the kids toys, and the whole story of the abominations and their culture is the creative mind of a child.

Traditional and Grids

Let's see now. This makes me think of a futuristic world in which everything is perfect. The roads are mapped out and gridded. Lives are planned for people that aren't even born yet and the sad thing is, no one cares. This way of life is now tradition. Long gone are the days of individuality and freedom. The stress of life was too much to handle for mere humans. So the ingenuity of a great race faltered and an age of prosperity and happiness never happened.

Note: I realize I used "this makes me think" at the begining of every story. Sorry? Confused
