The case of the disappearing toolbar

I'm one of those technophobes who believes that gremlins make computers possible, so bear with me.

I'm not sure how long this has been happening -- maybe a week -- but slowly, over the course of the day, my email window is loosing buttons in the top toolbar. It's Outlook Express 6, running on Windows XP Pro. When I fire it up in the morning it has all of these buttons:

Create Mail
Reply
Reply All
Print
Delete
Send/Recv
Addresses
Find
Anti-spam

Right now, about 12 hours later, only the first 3 of the list is shown on the toolbar. Weird, eh?

I could call my IT consultant, but it's not critical -- unless it's indicative of something serious -- and I was hoping that you would have a quick solution. And you won't charge me $80/hour, right?

Try selecting Large Icons with Text for your buttons (if not already selected), and see if that solves the problem.

Right-click on the toolbar, then select customize.

Got it, but that's not the problem, unfortunately. (I did manage to change a few things more to my liking -- such as getting rid of the dangerous "Reply All" icon.) The icons are there, and the text with them.

But within 15 minutes the last icon, or the far right one, had disappeared from the toolbar. This will be followed by others throughout the day. As far as I can tell, the only thing that's happening is that I am collapsing and opening the window periodically as I work.

When I completely close the program, and then re-open it, all icons are in their places.

Are you using any type of SPAM filter with Outlook Express?

Yes, Norton Internet Security (and I've enabled the automatic updates on that)
