About a million years ago. I've been in all 3 hotels - as a tourist! Could never afford to actually stay. Laughing

I like to do that, wander through them, I mean..

Which did you like best, or do you remember?

Brick houses - anice vitual tour along the European Route of Brick Gothic.

I haven't photographed any of the new house around my place - nothing extraordinary in my opinion.

This is the (former) spa administration building (no still offices in it, I think)...

... and four of the oldest guesthouses (now all flats, shops) ...

... one of the pump houses ...

all buildings one minute slowly walking away

Well, I was pretty young at the time (still am, ya know  ). The Empress on the island stands out the best. I remember our family having lunch there while on vacation. That was before they restored it (1989). Cost them 45 million for that.

I especially like that last guest house or pavilion, Walter.

Hey, hi walter and welcome. Those are great photos. European buildings seem to last forever.

Over here, that same building would be torn down in half that age!

I'm exaggerating a little, but much less restoration going on.

This monastery in Malmo is nifty...
it'll take a bit of time to look at all those buildings on that tour (Walter's link), but I'm going to enjoy it.

Here's the Greyfriar's Monastery -

I love the older buildings. They have history and style that the newer monstrosities won't ever develop.

This is Dorton Arena - State Fairgrounds Raleigh NC

Can you imagine that ever being majestic? Stately?

Oh yes, I have an opinion. But this site is rocking along right now with so many pretty pictures that I will wait for a lull in the action.

I've put in a request to have the subject changed to "Share architecture from your area".

I think it would make for a more interesting thread to have others share photos of heritage style architecture from their own towns.

This thread has changed from what was originally intended.

Apparently my request to have the title changed isn't going to happen, so just to make it official for those reading this thread that haven't posted yet, feel free to post architectural photos from your own area, etc.

It's definitely interesting! I guess it wouldn't be considered classic, but i wouldn't poopoo it either.

I have this penchant for thinking of different animals when I see some buildings. Well, mammals. I'd call this an effort to portray a White Whale... in an ocean of concrete.

I do like some modern buildings, prefer interesting ones to miserable imitations of old. Not this one though.

Well, lemmee backtrack. What if I change the stripes in the, well, upper whale jaw, into bigger glass windows. (never mind that you probably can't do that structurally). Or the bottom teeth. What if I erase those funny tail fins. What if the back curves up instead of having that fat white blip and those tail fins?
What if I nestle it all in a grove of ... what... anyway, many vertical trees.
What if all around the front is blue water...

It might not be the main shape I don't like, but the way it's worked out.

From a different angle you can see that it actually becomes a push-me pull-me whale. Same on both sides. Least favorite building in the area.
