We have been continuously (all week) threatened with a blizzard. We haven't even gotten an inch of snow so far. It has, however, been as cold as a well-digger's backside.

@Region Philbis,
It's your kind of climate that makes me happy to live in Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley

@Setanta,
It was pretty snowy this afternoon but not much accumulation. The small people we were with really enjoyed it.

@farmerman,
I suspect the four month old would think we were giants if he understood the concept. the five year old? she 'll outgrow me before she's 12.

@cicerone imposter,
when we lived in calif, we really missed the seasons and really hated the autumn/winter fogs, and the summer desert heat.
California, to me, is like a mini Australia, with tiny seaside enclaves of moderate climate, located within a scorching desert half as big as europe

@farmerman,
I enjoyed the seasons when we lived in Illinois, but I enjoy this moderate climate in my retirement. No more shoveling snow, and driving in it.

@cicerone imposter,
unless you have to drive above 3000 ft. I always loved the weather reports from folsom where theyd give snow accumulations for +3000 ft elevation up in the Sierras. Before I set up a lab in STOCKTON we lived in the hills above Rosedale. It was like Denver outskirts where youd get 4" of snow leading up to the flat irons of the Rockies but only lush in downtown Denver.

@farmerman,
Denver was in my territory when I worked for Florsheim Shoe Company, and I loved it. There was a restaurant in downtown Denver where they served huge shrimps for appetizers that was included in the cost of the meal. Also, Denver is where the Japanese American community built a memorial for Gov Ralph Carr, because he's the only one during WWII who invited and welcomed the Japanese to his state/city. He never won another election, but I'm positive he'll be remembered as one of the best politicians during that period who never forgot the US Constitution. Discrimination against us Japanese were rampant before, during, and after WWII.

@cicerone imposter,
if only we could learn from history eh?
My original family was Jewish so, while in Russia they converted to Russian Orthodox so the "Christian Russians" wouldnt kill my ancestors.
I realized from them that religion, like all other bullshit, is just so you could hve a holiday or two where you could eat something great.

Passover prayer
"Our first born were saved by a paint job--lets eat"

Easter prayer
"jesus rose from the dead, no ****"--lets eat"

Well, there goes the weather thread.

@farmerman,
That's the extent of religion; a social club and excuse to feast.

We may not have enough of a clear sky to see the eclipse (damn). In other news, we live on the border of 4 - 8" and 8 - 14".
They think 5 - 8" here.

@Region Philbis,
Stay safe y'all. Maybe there will be something on the tv while you are watching the woods fill up with snow. Is there perhaps a football game or something tomorrow?

Television implies electricity. Good luck with that.
