In the near future,Americans (and others) will get tired of complaining and drugs will be used in all sports. That will be the final confirmation that sports are business and nothing more.

Drugs 'destroying US sport'

POSITIVE doping tests are destroying the credibility of American sport, the 2004 US Olympics men's athletics coach said today (AEST).

With Olympic 100 metres champion Justin Gatlin following Tour de France winner Floyd Landis in testing positive to testosterone, Williams said: "They are destroying it big-time.

"It is affecting sports everywhere. It is affecting the credibility of young kids," "Justin is a hero. He is a hero for track and field. He is an American hero." Williams said he does believe Gatlin used performance-enhancing substances.

"Anybody that gets caught if they are doing something wrong, that's a good sign," he said.

"But if they are not doing something wrong, that's a bad sign."

Co-world 100 metres record holder Gatlin announced today (AEST) he had tested positive for testosterone or its precursors in April.

Two days earlier, Landis confirmed he had failed a doping test for testosterone during the Tour de France.

Both denied taking banned substances and said they would fight to clear their names.

"We are in the process of reaping what we sowed," said World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) chief Dick Pound before Gatlin's positive was announced.

"We let this (doping) problem get out of hand in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, and now you pay the price of when great performances occur, people ask questions," he said.

US Olympic Committee chairman Peter Ueberroth said doping is like a cancer.

"It tears at the fabric of what makes sport unique and important to our society," he said in a statement.

"We are committed to winning this battle. (But) the cold reality is this: we are not yet winning the battle.

"Good progress has been made, but a great deal more must be done."

Yup, they're pretty much being used in every sport.

Look how much bigger and more ripped the guys in the NBA are compared to 15 years ago. NFL, the average lineman is something like 80 lbs heavier, but also a lot faster than the guys from the same time ago. But since the NFL has "testing" nobody bothers blinking an eye. It's probably more common than most think.

@Slappy Doo Hoo,
Yes, there probably is more performance enhancing drugs being used now. But people being more muscular now opposed to 15 years ago does not mean that they are using drugs. We know more now about how important it is to work out certain parts of your body more than what was happening 15 years ago. Harder training and more enthusiasm towards your sport and the want to be better is what's causing athletes to get better more than performance enhancing drugs are. For now at least. And with linemen being heavier than before in the NFL, muscle is more dense than fat and if you look at the guys now in comparison to 15 years ago, now they're pretty much all muscle (due to working out and training) when they used to mainly be fat.
