Unlock Icon Position?

Can I unlock the positioning of the desktop icons on my Sony laptop? If I try to move them to another location on the screen they immediately return to the lefthand side.

Right-click on the desktop and choose Arrange Icons. Unclick Auto Arrange. They should then stay where you put them.
