Y! Messenger Log in problems
Hello,

I have been using Y! Messenger for a couple of months now. From the last three days i am having a peculiar problem. Sounds very illogical to me. I am unable to log in to the messenger . I get a message saying "Try again/Login problems". I have tried using proxie servers and firewall options but it does not work. I have written to yahoo Customer Care too . They were kind enough to respond but choose to put their hands up by providing me with a link on their Online pages. I am very confused and am looking for help. The Messenger is not merely a communication medium, its more than that to me. Its my life and links me with someone whom i love a lot. I would be greatful if any kind soul out there can offer any form of help to rectify this. Crying or Very sad

Yahoo Login Problems - one step forward
Thanks for your prompt response Craven,

My only id which was in place "[email protected]" is not accessible anymore.

I just discovered something about the "Login problem" . Every time i enter a Chat room in yahoo since the last three days, i get a message in the next 5 mts "You have been logged off from Chat" and then if i log off the messenger i realise i can no longer login again.

Is someone hacking ? Is it a Virus ? This is happening since last four days and now i know for sure its becoz i go into "Chat sites".

Hope to crack this problem with the most able team of Able 2 Know Idea (I have created the 10th id now : [email protected])

Is someone hacking ? Is it a Virus ?

Probably not. But try to create a new yahoo ID with a new password.

This sounds like a complicated problem, if you want someone to solve it we will need clear and detailed information.

Please tell us what operating system and browser you use.

Anita,

Do you have any software on your computer that blocks chatrooms?

This sounds like something you'll need Yahoo to help you with BTW. :-(

BTW = by the way

Thing is, it will be very difficult to diagnose this online. The problem you describe is odd.

Do you have a firewall?

Is it a home or work computer (or school)?

Yahoo Login Problems
Thanks for your prompt responses.

I know the problem is difficult but every problem has a solution.

Wonder what is going wrong ? I have contacted my internet service provider and also the software guys here. I am in India.

Is it the OS ? I use Windows 98.

I operate from home and connect via cable lines provided by a local internet provider.

Hmm, well I just thought of one thing it could be.

Pergaps Yahoo is banning accounts from your IP. After you connect they match your IP to one of their ban lists and ban the account.

This sounds like what is going on, it could be a ban directed at you or an IP range.

Chat rooms have been blocking certain countries because they can't moderate them and certain countries have had more abusive users.

It could be that a range of IPs in India have been blocked.

Anita,

I have the same problem. Cant login to messenger, but can check my mail. I sent a mail but i got one of those automated answers. Is it because yahoo has been banned in india, which is causing the proble. Plan to call up yahoo india for help.

Craven any views on this

Yes, I did some research and found out that this is something that the Indian government is responsible for.

The Indian government considers voice chat to be "Internet Telephony". Indian ISPs are trying to have MSN and Yahoo chat declared illegal because in India there is a law that states that only ISPs can provide "Internet Telephony".

This all revolves around the Indian IT act of 2000. It "holds ISPs legally responsible for the content that passes through their networks. So, if the government declares that voice chat on the instant messenger is Internet telephony, unless Yahoo and MSN (and others) acquire ISP licenses, ISPs could face legal action for carrying illegal voice traffic." (Wired news)

Yahoo and MSN will probably cease to provide voice chat and the block is probably temporary (until this is resolved).

I have been unable to determine of the block is done at the Yahoo level or the Indian ISP level.

Hope this helps.

Update, I was able to access yahoo chat after remotely controlling a friend's server in India.

So I do not think it's a government ban it might just be a particular ISP.

ISPs are supposed to be responsible for all the information they relay and some are wary of unmoderated Yahoo rooms.

If you all post the ISP you use we may be able to pinpoint the problem.

Login Problem
Hello,

I am experiencing the same exact problems that Anita and others are facing.

I get an "invalid login" message as I try to use the messenger but everything else is worknig (password, email, profile ecc.)

When I create a new account I get the same problem after a while.

I have the strong feeling that this is an hacking related problem.

I got an odd message the same day I started having this problem.

I also have a lab top computer with a different connection from my computer at home and when I use that I still cannot acces the accounts that got screwed up but if I create a new one they work fine.

I am from Italy so I do not have the same problem that they have with yahoo in India.

I hope someone can help us to solve this matter.

Thanks in advance

kayak,

The chat room shutdowns are not just in India, what ISP do you use with the laptop?
