Has anyone seen this movie?

Stars Johnny Depp.

I could tell it was loosely based on the Marquis de Sade...

Really good acting....but disturbing.

Having read Justine, I'm not surprised that it's disturbing.

I was going to see this film with a friend awhile back, until I looked up the reviews:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/libertine/

I couldn't see spending 10 bucks on it.

The most important thing, obviously, is do we get to see Depp skin?

No dammit, which was incredibly disappointing.

Re: the rotten tomatos reviews I wouldn't have gone to the theater either. Then again, I'm not a real movie goer.

When I say disturbing, there weren't any actual pornographic, brutal scenes or anything...it's the the whole tone of the film.

When I say based on the life of deSade, I mean the fact he loathed his mother, indifferent to his wife (that is, on the surface, he did love her in his fashion), his exile (no prison in this movie, but he essentially was in a prison of his own making) and writing.

I'd like to see lightwizards educated take on this....

I'm glad I watched it, I'm just not sure why Confused

I'll bump the thread, Chai, in case Lightwizard is hanging around.

I checked the reviews as I am always impressed by Johnny Depp's performance but to rush over to the multiplex just to see if he was able to save what appears to be a turkey, no way. I will catch it on cable or rental DVD, although I have currently unsubscribed to NetFlix due to no time to watch all the movies. INHD is showing so many classics in hidef that I've become addicted. It's like seeing films for the first time in such clarity, it's mind boggling.
