edgar, All the good actors are disappearing from this planet; all the new ones like Tom with big box office attraction are a different breed. Time has changed, and us along with it.
Buttons was not a super star; still I am a bit surprised his passing is going pretty much un-noticed.
By the time I came of age, comedians like Bill Cosby and george Carlin were making inroads into stand up . I really only remember Red Buttons from The John Wayne movie ATari, which itself was kind of sappy but fun.
His breakthrough performance was in "Sayonara" where he played the doomed serviceman in love with a Japanese girl. He nearly upstaged Brando.
Just googled him, he looks familiar.
Its sad to think actors from a golden age are leaving us.
Dead film star trifecta in play: June Allyson, Red Buttons...who's next?
