Opera 9, or "I seem to have these widgets".

There, that'll sort the Thurber lovers from the goats!

Anyhoo, anyone else now running Opera 9?

What do you think?

Actually, the widgets are kind of cool! I like having a BBC feed on my browser, and the search thingy while limited IS a beginning...especially since it does images as well as normal searches.

But..what's with the little picture of the unopened pages when you run the cursor over them? Ok, I am dumb...but I don't really see what that is about.

What else does it do?

Don't know.
I'm still running 7.23
I didn't bother going to 8 as there were things about the interface I couldn't have the way I like them.
Didn't know there was a 9 either. You'd think they'd have sent me an email seeing as how I actually pay for the software.
Ah well.
I'll download it now and see what it's like.

Damn.
The thing I can't stand is still there.
It's the panel on the left.
I want to just have my bookmarks there. Not the panel with all the button for bookmarks, widgets, notes, transfers etc...
I want that gone and just my bookmarks there.
In Opera 7.23 I can have those buttons but they are above the list of my bookmarks so they're out of the way and not taking up any screen width.
This new panel thing is a step backwards.
If there is a way to have that panel above my bookmarks then for gawd's sake someone please tell me how it's done because I can't get rid of it.

It might seem a small point to many but it drives me to distraction.
One of the primary reasons I use Opera is for the maximal screen area available and yet I still have all the buttons etc... want avaiable immediately without having to click something else first.

I made that panel disappear yesterday, and I have no idea how I did it! It was an accident.

So...it CAN go.

My bookmarks are where they always have been...at the top, with Edit, View etc.

Wait!

Just a smidge less than half way down the page, on the left, there is a shadowy arrow thingy.

If you have the left hand panel showing, it points to the left.

Click it, and it makes the panel disappear...leaving just a shadowy Right pointing arrow to click and make them appear again!

Yep...most are much ado about nothing, but kind of fun to explore.

Done it !!!!

The selections are rather confusing.
You have to select preferences, then click the panel then adjust the properties of the toolbar not the panel.

I'm just trying to find a skin to make all the buttons really really tiny and then I'll start using it in earnest and see how it goes.

Thanks Bunny. I needed the impetus to try and resolve this.

No idea what the widgets are yet. Any ideas ?

Is anyone else getting a weird green underlining of the word toolbar ?
And when you hover over it some F*%@#~ advert for Microtosh or those corporate whores MSN pops up.
Anyone else ?
How the farking hell do I turn that sh*t off ?
Christ.
That has really, really annoyed me.
Is it Opera or A2K ?
If it's Opera and I can't turn it off it's getting uninstalled this instant[/b !

Nope. That's not it.
I've never seen any of this advertising before.
And I don't like it one bit !
It never appears in Opera 7.23
Must be something I've set.
Well if it can't be got rid of it's bye bye A2K.
I'm not putting up with that nonsense.

Whether you have seen it or not, it has happened for ages...

Yes, it is nonsensical that the site make some money to defray what it costs Craven to keep it free to use.

I have no problem paying to use the site.
I give my time and knowledge to help others here also free of charge.
In fact that's 99% of what I do here.
Well that and annoying the hell out of the ID subnormals.

I don't like adverts I can't switch off. They annoy the hell out of me.

Call me silly for wating to contribute and not wanting to put up with corporate pimping.

Well, ain't my problem or place to comment....but I have been round this website for a while, and I suspect that trying to run one in a way that is possible for the runner, without offending someone by something every second of every day is the task of Sisyphus. And, I have noted that each person who is displeased by some fact of the site acts as though the management have gone out of their way personally to offend THEM.

Anyhoo....I don't think I have seen any underlinings since moving to this Opera, and I did on the last one, but not on the one before....so it goes.

I was barely noticing them after a while....

Damn site!

I tried to edit that post, but Mac intervened. Craven only buggered up the edit function to annoy ME!

Here's the amended post..I am too lazy to write the salient changes out by themselves...so here:

Which is never true, of course, except when I am the one expressing disturbance!
