Francis, clear something up for me. The General's name was Booth, right?

Did you indicate that it WAS John Wilkes Booth? There is someone named Sherman Booth. I am a little confused.

No, it isn't john wilkes booth, that name was a hint.

Nobody gave the name of our man yet.

I gave a hint which was John Wilkes Booth because he was somehow connected with our man.

I didn't acknowledge the name Sherman.

Chai, if you looked it up, and you know the answer, why don't you want to tell us?

Wow! Let's begin again.

The man's name is NOT Booth but was associated with him.

Sherman Booth is NOT correct.

The man lived in Goshen, New York.

New hint: Goshen, NY.

OK, I know the answer now, but I won't give it away since I had to look it up. I wasn't familiar with that person, so I don't feel it would be fair to give the answer.

That's why Letty....it just wouldn't be right to call out the name as even after I found the name, I didn't now who he was.

If an idiot like me can find it....an intelligent person should have no prob.

I'm thinking of my next picture.....hmmmm....

"associated" is, maybe, a bit too much. I said "somehow connected"

Sherman Booth has nothing to do here.

Our man lived, died and are still in Goshen, NY.

I'm sorry. I don't understand that, Chai. Often I have found places and people that I don't know. I guess I am not intelligent today.

Beautiful, Francis, now I recall the Lincoln conspirators. The first time that civilians have been tried in a military court. He must have been a great man, but one who isn't often recognized. I think it was also the first time that a woman was put to death in such matters.

Thank you for the history memory. <smile>

well, yeah...I think that was the picture Francis originally posted, but he didn't have the name showing.

Henry Burnett....maybe it means something to you....but for me, you might as well have said Joe Blow. So simply by googling "booth" "civil war" "goshen" I brought this up. I just scanned the text and saw the name Booth was in there in connection with Burnett.

I still don't know what the connection is, so, for me, it just didn't seem right to blurt out a name that I couldn't justify my method of finding.

It would have been a hollow victory.
Who knows, maybe there's a huge General Burnett admirer out there that would have been pissed some dumb bunny just tossed it out.

Sherman came fron when I guessed william T. sherman, but I was wrong.

When I think New York, and civil war, I think Grant....When I think Grant, I think Sherman.

Got it?

If anyone knows the answers (without looking at the link to the picture), then feel free to post the answer and submit a new picture.

My intention with this thread was to provide an opportunity to put faces to some of the more popular, historic or important names which many of us hear, but may not recognize.

We don't need to limit ourselves to old B&W photo's either. How many people in the US recognize their own state senators? How many people would recognize the leader of Japan? Everyone recognizes Einstein, but how many would recoognize Neil Armstrong even though they know his name.

Have fun Smile

thanks ros....I was going to put a more recent person, especially trying to think of a woman....but for some reason, this guy came to my mind.

hingehead....if you know, go ahead....

if you don't want to name him, but let someone else get it you're in charge of clues....

I must now retire into the arms of Morpheus.

Nighty night.
