I have a question what is the most scores you can get in the third quarter in football? I am doing a probability quiz and I need help. Thanks, Elvis
Football stuff
The only thing I know is you score a touch down and you get 3 points. and if you make a field goal you get 6 points. Thats like 9 points total. But you are being timed for the touchdowns and I want to know the average score for the third quarter. Thanks, Elvis
Other way around -- field goal is 3 points, touchdown is 6 points in and of itself, but carries the opportunity for an extra point attempt (usually easy, a kick from the 20-yard line, for 1 point), or a 2-point conversion (an attempt to get the ball in the end zone from the 2-yard line, looks like a touchdown but only earns 2 points). 2-point conversions are iffier and are usually done only in extreme circumstances.
I don't think the fact that it's the third quarter makes a difference.
The total points could be very, very high. Possible scenario -- as the third quarter opens, the red team are on the blue team's 1-yard line. Quarterback sneak, touchdown.
6 pts.
extra point is succesful
7 pts.
Red team kicks off, blue team fumbles, red team defensive guys run for touchdown.
13 pts.
extra point
14 pts.
Red team kicks off, blue team recovers, blue team's first throw is intercepted, red team defensive guy runs for touchdown.
20 pts.
extra point
21 pts.
Etc., etc.
All of what I describe above could happen in about a minute and a half of game time, or even less.
