A sorting suggestion

Since we don't yet have the Last 24 hrs link working yet...

Would it be possible to have the topics in each category sort by the date of the latest post in them?

This way, we could open each category and look down the list of topics under current discussion and participate.

Right now they seem to be sorted in topic numerical order. If you lose connection in the middle of reading all posts since last visit, the only available options you have is to skip the attempt to read and go do something else or open each category and search through the pages of topics looking for ones with the latest post date on them.

I find myself more often then not just leaving the boards and doing something else rather then wrestle with searching to find where the latest pearls of wisdom are posted. Having the ability to sort topics by last post date would go far in keeping me around longer to read the posts.

They are already sorted by date (except for announcements and features threads, those topics are tied to the top).

You might also use the "Your posts" option, when all else fails. It gets the topics you have posted in.

Then would it be possible to remove the "featured topic" label from those that haven't had posts for 7 days or more?

I again lost connection this eve while skimming the 750 new posts for the day. After opening up three categories and seeing a page of outdated feature topics, I just gave up and went to do a crossword puzzle instead. It was much more entertaining then waiting for the browser window to load so I could scroll through the pages to see if there was anything I was interested in reading and commenting on.

It's great that a large number of categories and topics is offered here on the boards, but it needs a few more specialized organizational utilities to make the task of keeping up with the messages more manageable. If you don't have a 100% consistent connection, it takes way too much time to navigate through the maze.

The featured topis are selected by the content specialists it is not intended to be a way to highlight recent posts.

See if this helps, I made it last night after reading your post:

http://www.able2know.com/allinone.php

It shows a list of all the topics in the public forums with the ones with the most recent replies at the top.

I just checked it out. It is very useful and would be helpful to people who lose their connection while reading a LOT of messages in the queue.

It allows you to scan the list of current topics quite easily. Very well done, Craven. It could easily replace the broken "Last 24 hrs" link since it does that and more.

Thank you!

I'll test it a bit and eventually add it to the navigation links.

A real fix will ahve to wait until the new forum kernel
