My cousin is stationed in San Antonio right now, but has to quickly go to California.
He has ......... well...........HAD Very Happy ....... an akc registered Golden Retriever named buttercup.

I absolutely love his dog.
She is sooo sweet, laid back, kiddo friendly, well trained.. just an all around happy content lap kinda dog.

Well, I got a message friday that they had to leave her with someone else because where they are moving, doesn't welcome dogs with out a big deposit.
Also, after a year and a half of horrible allergies, they take their son in to have an allergen test, and wouldn't you know... hes allergic to dogs.
Pretty bad from what I understand.

She is so pretty.

So sweet

And has a horrible name - Buttercup-

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/6751/buttercup3jpg5zy.jpg

Now I have 3 'babies' Very Happy

Jillian, kitten and... the nameless wonder. ?

I still use buttercup, but I want to change it.
Is it easy to change a dogs name?
Will changing her name effect her training?

She is trained in almost everything.
Leash, house trained, basic commands, tricks, doesn't run out the door just because it is open, knows how to stay.. etc..

And they all rely on getting her attention first .
Example
- Buttercup, stay-

So, Im kind of at a loss.

Ian says name her deogie.
Pronounced - Dee-o-gee
Meaning - d-o-g

HATE IT.. Laughing

Any ideas?

What's wrong with buttercup? With those eyes it suits her perfectly.

I dont know.
Maybe im just lost in my fantasy to have a big , mean looking, dog who in real life is nothing more then a lap dog, and screaming buttercup at the top of my lungs outside, doesnt fit that fantasy.
Laughing

but then, neither does she. ;-)

I dont have to rename her.
And honestly, not QUITE sure I will... but.. Buttercup isnt a name I would have picked, so it feels a bit wierd.

She'll learn a new name quickly enough, that's no worry. How about Princess?

Actually i was thinking along the lines of blonde bitch.

or bimbo..

but.. that would only be funny to me and my twisted mind.

I cant use princess.
My german shepard of 14 years was named that.
Still stings a bit.. and there will never be another one.

I do miss that dog.

Oh, Buttercup is a sweet name for a sweet dog.

She knows her name by now, I think changing it would confuse her.

I worked with someone who had 2 dogs....Meanie and Peaches.

Meanie was ....... well, mean and kinda big.

Peaches was a sweet little Pom.

She also had a parrot named Bogie who learned really fast.

This woman took Bogie to work with her most days, and you'd hear him saying all sorts of stuff, one of the funniest was...

MEANIE COME!
MEANIE COME!
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeaches....(imagine little hearts around this)
MEANIE COME!

I have never SEEN such a laid back dog.
She is just so content and peacefull..
I am totally amazed with her now that she is with me, as i was everytime I would go to my cousins house.

Princess, my shepard, was only like this in her last years of life.
She wasnt a bad dog in any sense, she was just alot more active during the day.

Buttercup is just happy to sit against my leg, lay across jillians legs if she is still enough, or lay her head on my lap and just look at me.

She is 1 1/2 years old , and if this is what she is like as a semi-puppy, she will be a fabulous adult. :-)

best of all...

she isnt a BEGGER!

I can eat around her, and she is mindless as to what I am doing.

She doesnt steal snacks from Jillian, or try to lick her bottles or cups .
She has not been given very much human food in her entire life, and it shows.

im sooooooo loving this DOG!!!

My poor old girl.
She is nervous.

Buttercup saw her, and tried to 'inspect' her, but Kitten let her know that, it wasnt OK.

It will take some time, but I think they will be OK together at best.. and I dont forsee alot of fighting..

Buttercup isnt a 'chaser' of cats, and Kitten is just too old to really be a fighter.

Give them time, shewolf. If Buttercup is as gentle as she appears, they'll get along just fine. And the cat will be the boss. They always are!

As it should be ;-)

Kitten gets priority over comfort zones. And Butter cup will never sleep with us so long as Kitten is alive, because that is her spot.

Im sure they will be ok.
I just hate that kitten feels / is alienated, but that too will change.

I truly doubt that they will be close enough to be touching each other, but I do think they will come to the point that they are comfortable in the same room together.
Wich is perfect for them, and me.

You reminded me of this lovely quote I read the other day, shewolf: Edith Wharton described her little dog as a "hearbeat at my feet."
