What do u think about the Bill HR4437? Should it pass? Why or why not? what is the deal with immigration in this country? Is it to just have someone there to blame for problems? ..... Or what is it... Are we scared?

What bill? Which country? This is the World Wide Web dude (or dudette).

Oh, and welcome to A2K !! Very Happy

You've got two extremes, borders open and borders closed. In between you have a vast range of options to choose from and every country manages it differently. In times when people feel (rightly or wrongly) that their personal security is threatened by a more open border policy, then the pendulum is likely to swing in the opposite direction for a while.

The only real morally correct option is all borders open, all the time...but people are generally a bit too selfish for that.

I have no idea about which Bill you're talking about, but have a sneaking suspicion that this should be in the Politics section.

Eorl and Wolf_ODonnell... HR4437 is the Border protection, anti-terrorism, illegal immigration control act of 2005 which was passed by Congress by a vote of 239-182 in December of last year. The Senate I believe is still dilly-dallying trying to figure out how this will effect their various futures in politics.
More information can be found here: HR4437 (in pdf format) and here: Justice For Immigrants
or just google the bill # into your system and see the results.

Vega...I have very mixed feelings about the bill as it stands in part due to the merging of three areas at one time along with the negative perception which immigration (legal and other) ends up having with the words anti-terrorism tossed into the mix. As for the actual meat of the bill there is no easy approach. The difficulties which are perceived with regard to immigration have risen over a period of time and there is no easy solution which can properly sastisfy everyone.

Well the Billis pretty much saying that immigrstion should be abolished. If u are seem or caught with an immigrant (someone without USA citizenship) will be arrested and charged for a FEDERAL CRIME and the immigrant will be deported. This is really horrible because if u have family members that are no citizens u are not allowed to have a ny contact with them whatsoever or u will go to FEDERAL PRISON. Also when it comes to teachers and doctors... well they can't help either. You cant give them any kind of aid, so im guessign you would just leave them there to die... so know that u know what it is... what do u think about it?

I love HR4437!

Our immigration system has been messed up for years. It is beauracratic, slow and painful. The current law has no compassion... a small mistake often gets immigrants deported and banned from entry for 10 years or even for life.

Worse yet, our current system breaks up families and forces people who were raised here for years to live lives underground.

So why do I love HR4437? Simply because it is so stupidly harsh. I have been working for years to get justice for immigrants, and the House Republicans do more in one bill than I could have ever hoped for.

Immigration reform... including a frank discussion on the contributions and trials of immigrants are now at the forefront of our society.

Best yet, HR4437 doesn't have a chance of passing... and it makes makes the Republicans alienate another part of the voting public.

Don't worry, the pro-immigrant movement is gaining strength and I am feeling confident that we will win a path to legalization for immigrants. When this happens you can thank a House Republican.

I hope that you are participating in the rallies....
