Harvard players arrested after running naked in Greenwich
By Associated Press, 5/8/2003 07:26
GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) Two players on Harvard's rugby team were charged with disorderly conduct after police say they were caught running naked through a public park.
Greenwich police Lt. Pam Gustovich told The Advocate of Stamford that the two men apparently had been drinking Wednesday night at a party held at the home of a team member's parents in the exclusive Mead Point section of town.
Police arrested Steve Longo, 19, a freshman center on the team and a former captain of the Greenwich High School rugby and football teams, and Robert Boutwell, 19, a freshman prop from West Newton, Mass.
The two students were arrested after police chased them through Bruce Park, Gustovich said.
John Rudey, the father of one of Harvard's wingers, was charged with providing alcohol to minors and reckless endangerment. Police said he held the party for about 30 of the rugby team's players.
In December 2001, Longo was named most valuable player in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference football championship game after rushing for an FCIAC title game record 212 yards.
Gustovich said administrators at Harvard were informed of the incident. University athletics officials could not be reached for comment late Wednesday. A message left at the home of a spokesman was not immediately returned.
Team members apparently were celebrating their second-place finish in the rugby Final Four national championships last weekend in Stanford, Calif. Harvard was defeated 45-37 by the U.S. Air Force Academy.
