Convert PDF to RTF: Keep text from converting as image?

I have Adobe Acrobat 6. When I try to save a PDF document to rich text format (so I can grab all the text from the document, and hope to maintain some semblance of the formatting) the resulting word document turns out to be an image of the PDF page, rather than the text itself.

I've tried a few different methods- using the OCR and then saving, as well as clicking on the "make page accessible" option, to no avail.

Is there a way to save the text to a format that would maintain the document structure, and from which I could extract the text? I know I can do it page by page, but I'm working with 100+ page PDFs.

Is there an easier way, or some step that I am missing?

Thanks!

Aimeanna

You could try

http://www.thebeatlesforever.com/processtext

which makes ABC Amber available.

You could also consider an upgrade. I have just tried v7 of Acrobat and that will save a pdf to many other formats.
I saved a .pdf file to .rtf and could edit any of the text with no problems (so it was not saved as an image).
Good luck.
