Does anyone know how much the Westlaw charges the credit card user?
I just need to use the Westlaw database and obviously the username and password are needed. It seems that I can only access as a credit card user, so how much the charges and how they bill, I mean monthly based on the loggin times or on per search.
Thank a million!

We subscribe to the Westlaw bulletins for PA, NJ and a few other states, for environmental and mining codes.
Lets say you can blow the better part of a 100$ a month on these. We used to have an all inclusive subscription for X number of new regs. That happens quick in New Jersey. Those people cant leave anything alone.

Its still one of the best all though there are some new services like Citation that are giving Westlaw a run.

What group of laws are you interested in?

Thank you farmerman, I'm a teaching staff of a Chinese university, resently I 'm researching broadband legal issues, I believe it belongs to the e-commerce law and intellectual property law, also tele laws. I used to use Westlaw when I studied in the UK using university's account, that account can access almost every area of law, so for an idividual, can I say different services charges for different needs?

zhu-Westlaw citations are quick to compile and use right "out of the box" . Its only been a few years since theyve gone all web based for their stuff. You may want to try Citation . com also. They are more peer to peer oriented. "AS far as their charges at Westlaw, we have the same prices for citations in mining as well as environmental regs. I dont think its the subject that controls pricing but the "BY the query" charge. Im not sure, but Ill ask tomorrow.
Good luck.

cj, Westlaw is like a Hemmings Motor news for lawyers (and others who dont wanna be in trouble with lawyers). Its got everything from Missouris "concealed weapons laws" to Hawaiis regs on how to package pinapple wastes for landfilling.

I use Westlaw via monthly subscription, so I'm not aware of the per document charges, but it appears that under the credit card plan the cost depends on the type of document, and you will know the price of a given document before you are committed to pay for it,

Quote:
If you pay by credit card:

The cost of retrieving documents or KeyCite results varies, depending on the type of document. You will always be asked to confirm charges before your credit card is billed, and this prompt lists the price.

If your Find request retrieves a list of documents, you are not charged until you click a link to display a document from that list.

Print charges are included in the cost of each retrieved document. In other words, while you are viewing a document you can print it at no extra charge.
