I actually think I have the wrong one, but it's the closest I could find.
The coolest looking spider I've seen wild was a bright green one in deep woods - this is close to what it looked like:
This looks like an orchard spider?-Leucauge venusta. Range: southern Canada to Panama. The web is more or less horizontal.

Personality-wise, my favorites are the jumping spiders:
Check out the wheel spider of the Namib Desert of South Africa. It may the the only animal?-other than humans?-to form its body into a wheel shape for locomotion. http://www.able2know.com/forums/about23556-130.html Scroll down.
The jumpers do appear to have a lot of personality. They follow you around when you are in their territory, like they just want to know what you are up to. If you try to drive them off for their own good, they refuse to be driven. They may hide, but they continue to hang nearby.

I LOVE jumping spiders. They get a lot of excersize when they run into me.....
Coluber - I can't remember the web, but it was definitely at about 3' off the ground. Maybe I didn't see it because it was horizontal. I stood transfixed after I regained my exposure from having stopped so abruptly.

You could picture that one on the carpet before the hearth, snoozing.

i'm the kind of guy that uses a 12 gauge shotgun to get spiders on the ceiling. My roof leaks.

Ha! And, I'm the one who, at midnight, gets a tupperware, catches the spider, and escorts him outside..... or, into the basement in winter.

A bodhisattva is a being motivated purely by compassion and love. They're humans who attain nirvana, but instead of moving on they remain on earth to alleviate suffering.
This is Quan Yin one of the most well known and beloved of the bodhisattva. She's thought of as the goddess of compassion. (She's also sort of my patroness, though I'm an atheist. Go figure)
