Anybody using a PC with 64 bit processor and OS ?

Just wanted to know how different it is fom the traditional 32 bit Home PC.

& What about software? Do all 32-bit ones run over this? Do you have any special 64 bit software installed?

Just curious.

Drew I know about VAX, But did you USE it at home, office or anywhere else for that matter?

I want User Reviews and experiences

I have seen 64 bit processors Intel and AMD Athlon( in stores ofcourse) with 64 bit platform OS like Windows Longhorn & software as MS Office 64 bit is soon to be launched, But never saw anybody actually using it.

thanks

Most users will notice little if any functional difference, apart, perhaps, from the execution speed of some operations and enhanced multi-threading/multi-tasking performance. Most 32 bit software which works under Win XP/Win 2K should function pretty much as designed when run on a 64 bit system; everything I've tried so far does (with the exception of some things like certain browser extensions). Little actual 64 bit software is out there yet, but that will change rapidly as 64 bit hardware becomes more common.

From the consumer standpoint, the greatest impact will be in the area of Audio/Video performance, with absolutely stunning developments to be expected in gaming as product is developed to take advantage both of the new architecture and of new developments coming in higher-end graphics cards.

I am running Windows XP64 Pro on a machine I built.

I haven't noticed any problems other than a couple of programs don't want to install because they don't recognize the OS and I have had to do workarounds.

XP64 wouldn't load the right drivers to install on my SATA drive. I finallly gave up and I put the OS on an IDE drive. It recognizes the SATA just fine. I haven't bothered to go back and try to fix the problem.

XP64 isn't supported by all the virus software yet either. I couldn't install Norton.

Norton product currently is not compatible with 64 bit, however, Symantec Antivirus 10 does have 64 bit support.
