anyone here write a query letter? do you have examples to share? my first one was rejected and i hesitate to change it. I have found so much conflicing information on queries that I am getting stuck into thinking it is ultimately a crapshoot and if the editorial assistant has pms you are fucked.
please share. i would rather not adhere to said opinion.
THANK YOU!
missfestival,
I agree with some of your assertions. It ultimately IS a crapshoot.
Many very famous writers were rejected out of hand many times before they were accepted. I too think it sometimes comes down to the mood of the editorial staff.
Hi missfestival,
I've sent out letters and gotten the same response as you (rejected is such a negative word...
...)...all I can say is keep at it and make sure you are sending your work to the right places, ie. publishers with a history of accepting your type of writing.
Good Luck!
Lorna
missfestival--
I've known a number of editors and all of them are purists on technical details. In a Query Letter, spelling, grammar and punctuation should be conventional and perfect. Cliches must be avoided.
The letter should be brief--one page at most. You can attach a few sample pages or a sample chapter, but the letter itself should be short and matter of fact.
Good luck.
thanks, folks for the links and things
