Speaking of cricket, this was an Olympic event in the Paris Olympics of 1900, when England beat France (i.e. a team from the British Embassy in Paris !).
I think Lord Ellpus should allocate part of his French estate for cricketing purposes thereby encouraging the locals to improve their nation's rankings by embracing the ethos of the noble game (or learning the nuances of true ennui)
