The United States was, and still is, a place where refugees fled to to escape the
status quo of human exploitation. As such, the constitution was designed as a guide toward the establishment a system of laws that would ensure the rights of every citizen, in every endeavor, in all walks of life. The question is whether its citizens can or, in fact, ever do live up to those high ideals and standards of justice.
