"THOSE STAIRWELL BLUES"

It's 10 minutes past yesterday and life suddenly sucks
I'm sitting down here at the bottom of the stairs
She's sitting up there in her flat on the 4th floor
Is she feeling good or feeling bad, but here I am
Wishing and hoping, doing those stairwell blues
I got back late, I'm in the wrong and now I pay.
She'd asked some friends round for dinner
Told me it would be fun with Toby and Rose
They live and breath the world of money
Bankers both and I'm doing those stairwell blues
I'm just a free spirit, come and go day by day
Jess wanted my commitment but I shrugged it off
Me much too young, a friend had said let's have a beer,
sure I said, and time sped by and late came quick
Too late when I got here, now I'm doin' those stairwell blues
Should I venture back up stairs, cap in hand
Beg forgiveness, promise love, recant and mend my faults
Take a chance and see what's said, I climbed the stairs
You let me down, now freak off and don't come back
I begged with words, then slunk back to those stairwell blues
Lost and hopeless tramped my way back home, those stairwell blues
Cold and wet in autumn drizzle and still I have those stairwell blues
I get back to my empty home and sitting down, those stairwell blues.

John, We were coming back from a gig one night, heard this song..it was juxtaposed with Beethoven's 5th...had to pull off to the side of the road and listen:
You don't know what love is

Until you've known the meaning of the blues.
Till you love the love you had to lose,
You don't know what love is.

You don't know how lips hurt
Until you've kissed and had to pay the cost;
Until you flipped your heart and found you were lost,
You don't know what love is.

Do you know how a lost heart fears
The very thought of reminiscing.
And how loved lips that taste of tears
Soon lose their taste for kissing.

You don't know how hearts burn
The love that cannot live but never dies;
Until you greet each dawn with sleepless eyes,
You don't know what love is.

{trumpet solo}

Do you know how a lost heart fears
The very thought of reminiscing.
And how loved lips that taste of tears
Soon lose the taste for kissing.

You don't know how hearts burn
The love that cannot live but never dies;
Until you face each dawn with sleepless eyes,
You don't know what love is.

You don't know what love is...
You don't know
What love is...
You don't know
What love is...

Not exactly the words that I remember.. Smile

guess they will have to do. Your song was real..mine just a remembrance

John, I felt so sorry for the guy, then I thought he doesn't know how to make a commitment. In other words, you pulled me into the story and I cared about your character. Wonderful mood piece.
