Was there one called Asoka a few yeras back?
I really liked it, thought the main guy was a bit too westernised but the women in it were great, music was superb.

Oh! Sadly It was not much about Asoka's Real Story but a fiction that depicts his reason to turn to Buddhism was because he mistakenly killed his lover's younger brother, rather than his killing of numerous innocent people for power.

So Indian viewers rejected the idea. Music was nice. But yes the movie was westernized in all respects.

By the way Asoka, the emperor has his symbol of a blue wheel called Ashokachakra on Indian Flag. So he is very sacred to every Indian.

Fav. hindi film...I've so many that this list will probably grow as I keep remembering titles.

Let's see:
Padosan (Yak chatur naar, bari hoshiyaar.....)
Chalti ka naam gaadi
Zanjeer
SHOLAY (The mother of all movies)

This one movie I forget the name of which (Amitabh, Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bhaduri. Has song: ab ke sajan sawan mein, aag lagegi...) Dharmendra rocks in comedy.....amma chakki peesing and peesing and peesing.

Dil Chahta Hai (I can see this movie over and over again, and Suno suno ai duniya walon is my anthem)

Yes...DDLJ

Yeh Dillagi (I think that's the one with Akshay Kumar & Saif Ali) Just too funn!

Andaaz apna apna

and....drum roll:
Parineeta (the new one: so glossy & beautiful)

This just for starters...I'll be back.

I guess not. However, Shashi Kapoor, the protagonist in the "The Householder" did act as hero in several Bollywood movies.

Are you talking about Ismail Merchant? We can call them bollywood fliks as he was Indian influenced director of hollywood. But they were in English. So calling them Hindi films may no be so opt.

BTW .... What a great artist he was ! Smile

I like the light-heated and fun Bollywood movies mostly of romantic comedy types like early 60s Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor vehicles like:

Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai
Junglee
Kala Pani
Kala Bazaar
Professor
Tere Ghar Ke Samne
Asli Nakli

I love the Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar duets with Shankar Jaikishen, S.D. Burman music.
