Rhapsody in Gray
Play me a
Rhapsody in delicate velvet Gray.
An intricate symphony adapted
for the smaller stage.
An intimate
simple subtle silvered score,
with stunning thunder underscored.
Dim and dense in roaring torrents,
Raining, Vainglorious
a storm that pours
with a chorus of incoherence.
Let it fall in a solemn opus, a soft and sober overture.
Amid a disconcerting mist, the concerto ever reoccurs.
Blurry, caped in gray, the dimming day mimics my mood.
Brooding, subdued...
I choose a close cloak of soaking seclusion,
as the fugue begins in dripping stippled confusion.
In pewter fluid euphony, the first movement begins,
the wind sends a rush of percussive drops
drumming across the car tops,
in a timorous timpanic prelude to solitude.
I walk, I pace,
drenched and draped with April's grace.
As I dare the deluge,
nothing dares to intrude, upon my thoughts.
Befogged,
Cloud-shrouded,
I hear the thousand voices of the rain.
Gray noise,
to soothe and subsume my pain.
Muted by a myriad, a diluted refrain...
Mist drizzles on splattered cats and sodden dogs,
with scattered catechisms of long forgotten gods.
They whisper in dismal disdain.
As Falling, Faith wanes,
amid novitiates of novocaine,
numb in runnels and rivulets of rain.
Immersed in shimmering obscurity,
drowned in the sound and fury...
Pure Colors meld and melt into the pelting rain.
the Sky sighs, crying til clear,
attuned to the music of the smaller spheres.
Teardrops convey gray chaos
in a flood of muddied moonstone jewels.
Such pearls abound in puddles and pools.
They gleam with a sun-spun sheen of oily dreams.
A bliss of viscid prisms that flow so slow,
draining those throw-away rainbows.

Welcome to A2K!
I do hope you enjoy your time here.
.. Rhapsody In Gray .... A gentle, soothing, melancholy poem. I liked it very much & was moved by the words & images .... but must ask: Did you write it? (Are you LMO?) or did you read it, love it & want to share with others?
I don't know whether to congratulate you on your own writing or on finding a lovely, gentle & moving poem.
Hi MsOlga,
Yep... for better or worse, I am Luke Michael Owens.
Thanks for the query... I'll update my profile to clarify matters.
Thank you for reading my sodden verse... and thank you for the kind comments!
Wow! Fantastic, delvish. I love the alliteration and the imagery. The entire poem is a concert. Applause.
Wow -- great to see you posting here dilvish!
For those of you who might not have noticed, a few months ago Geligesti posted a poem called Mighty Mjolnir under the regular poetry section... author unknown. We found out the author was LMO and recently... he appeared. Quite thrilling really for all of us! You may want to check it out.
Mighty Mjolnir
This new one is a wonderful poem too... makes me think dilvish has spent time in the Pacific Northwest!
Oh, hey!!
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
I love the internal stuff, rhymes and alliterations: "I choose a close cloak of soaking seclusion."
LMO?
I could have sworn LSO. (London Symphony Orchestra)
Tears and moonstones, pewter and pearls cloaked in gray--
"They gleam with a sun-spun sheen of oily dreams."
I'm captivated.
and, LMO, if you don't mind I would like to say a welcome back to Diane.
(((HUGS))) MADAM DI.
Letty, how nice to be welcomed back on such an elegant thread.
Smooches to you.
You're velcom, Di..and adieu for the night.......................................
Sweet dreams, dear Bets.
Dilvish, pardon the personal messages--
Bets and I are dear friends who haven't been in touch lately.
More poetry, please!
