Kafka's castle is a spooky image indeed....
Is that the Alhambra, Max? That is some mind! I don't believe there is a mind so lovely and orderly as that!!
Terry - the twins? Now you are REALLY spooking me!
In minds, as in horror films, the thing hinted at and never seen and examined, is full of far more terror than the thing faced and touched!
Yup.
Older than it looks, influenced by numerous cultures, but definately not, orderly!
oh, good - you had me scared for a while there!
inspiring thread.
great question deb...
Sorry, didn't mean to make your hare stand on end.
Answer it Mikey! puhleeeeze!
heehee - well, Terry Doo, if my hare ain't standing on end, itis sitting or lying down!
Problem is I'm now itching to reread The Castle, but I loaned my copy out about five years ago and never got it back.....Amazon's gonna' love me......
On line? It IS a classic. Er, what is the place that has classics online......damn...it is mentioned in my first reading group thread.
errrrr.....could take awhile.
one finger wonder on the keyboard here ya know.
Quote:Craven!!! That is fascinating - when did you draw that?
Dunno, twas in my teens.
Quote:The thing next to the snowperson - the one whose shadow becomes a cross - what is that?
Mailbox.
Quote:TWO crosses.....hmmmm
One cross, plus the snowman's shadow has hurns and a pitchfork so it compensates mmkay.
It's a dog, only there because it's going through a wall that isn't. The picture frame in the original was the whole picture (down to three times).
It's missing a lot. It was only fun for a bit. The idea was to play with walls and shadow but it got boring.
hmmmmm -thought it was a mailbox..
(and she called MY mind spooky)

I try to avoid brick and mortar bookstores since I'm such an impulse shopper when it comes to books. I'll walk in for The Castle and walk out with one of everything. That's why I have about 100 unread books on my bookshelf.
My mind is a room I have found hard to locate. I live there, but I get lost there.
If you were to visit my mind, you would find that it appears an orderly room at first. Things are in their places - it's open plan, but there are lots of unlabelled cupboards which contain various aspects of my life.
There are some full of sports gear, some with tickets to events long ago, some with plans for the re-decoration of the room in future.
The cupboards are like the wardrobe in ?'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. Once you open it, you may find that behind the clothes is another place, somewhere quite different.
Some cupboards open of their own accord and things fly out into your hand, unbidden. Some stay closed unless you have previously opened other cupboards in the right order.
My room is often a calm place to be. If I stay there long enough on my own, I find that it re-decorates itself in a minimalist style.
The colour of the walls changes to reflect my mood and the other people in my room at the same time.
Sometimes, when I am tired or drunk, the light grows dim and the cupboards seem to open and close at random, with a strange ivy that grows around them. In the morning, they are back to their normal state again.
If you ask nicely, I may be able to find what you are looking for, it may be (like answering this question) that it takes me a long time to pull out the relevant pieces.
I love to entertain in my mind - if you visit, you will be given your choice of drink. Maybe not the way you expected it to be mixed, but your own drink nonetheless. Ask for food, and you will be fed - what I wish to give you, not necessarily what you were asking for.
Stay here a while and you may begin to find out which cupboards interest you. If I feel comfortable with you, you are free to browse. Some of their contents you (and I) may find surprising and disturbing. Others may be very familiar.
My room appears very conventional at first - full of modern classics. If you hang out, you may find that you are not sitting on the chair you thought you were. Things alter without you noticing. Sometimes you will become more comfortable, sometimes less.
If you can feel good here, stick around. In any case, leave something of yourself behind for me to remember you by. Something from your own room - when you get home, you'll find something of mine in its place, as well as what you gave.
KP, are you sure we are not flatmates ?
Some of the cupboards in my mind are firmly locked. I don't dare open them for the fear of the demons which lurk behind those closed doors. While the room stays neat and organized majority of the time, it can descend into utter chaos almost instantly, and then it takes a long while for me to clear it up and restore the order which it is so used to. And ofocourse, depnding on the situation, some cupboards are locked, some are opened.
I also have some pictures hanging on the wall, almost all of them are of the same person - and even after hanging there was several years, they look like brand new, dust free, shining with their own inner light. When I feel too content, just one look at them pictures reminds me of what I have lost in life - in order to decorate my room with the most expensive of all things.....
<damn, this is making me sentimental>
