Someone told me that Jerry West is the player on the NBA logo. Who is the player on the Australian Open logo?

Australian Open logo
Hi,

I designed the Aus Open logo back in 1994. The silhouette character was taken from a shadow found in a magazine. I have no idea who the player was/is
