windows upgrade?

Win 2K and Win "x" Server are different "Families"; you can upgrade Win 2K Server directly to any subsequent Win "x" Server, but for an upgrade, you gotta start with a Server Family OS. You might be able to find an old Win 2K Server at a bargain price, as it is no longer a current-market item. And yes, whatever version you're running, you really should have the appropriate Service Packs, patches, and updates.
