What is Love?

Underneath the smile and laugh
There's a wounded child who cries
Mourning for the restoration
Of the day her innocence died

Hidden behind walls of doubt
And fear of every kind
She longs for the day when someone
Her broken heart will find

Many have passed on by
Overlooking her hidden pain
Very few have seen it
When they did they walked away

Betrayed by love again and again
She's feeble in her faith
There's no concept of how to trust
Others who come her way

She holds so much inside
And she has so much to give
Yet unable to reach out
Because of the wounded child within

Lord, is there anyone out there
Has there been anyone born
Who is strong enough and willing
To stand with me through this storm?

Can anyone one even love me
Just the way I am?
Regardless of if I'm perfect yet
Or the way my life has been?

Is there anyone who will hold me
When the tears are falling down?
Is there anyone I can trust
Who will really stick around?

It's all fine and dandy
When everything's going great
But I want to know who
Will be there when it aint?

We talk about loving each other
The way the bible says we should
But I have yet to see a person
Whose still around when things aren't good

We say, "Trust the Lord, He's with you..."
Words of comfort in hard times
But it seems to me they are nothing more
Than a living compromise

It's easy to speak words
When someone is feeling down
But words are only words
If true love isn't shown

Jesus You were our example
Of perfect love divine
You commanded us to give that love
Not hold it saying, "MINE!"

So Lord I ask again
Is there anyone who will care?
More than just with empty words
But someone who will actually be there?
