I quite agree.

By the way, I have thought about your offer of $50, and have decided that I should hold out for a bit more.

It must have potential, or there wouldn't be so many male escort services out there.

ellpus, don't hold out, please. the $50 was for you to go home... luckily you left all confused without collecting the payment.

Personally I have a fantasy about naked men being lined up for my perusal. I walk slowly down the line and select my favorite - a blonde, a brunette, a baldy. Hairy or not hairy? Tall or beefy?

Would the men be able to refuse if a woman looked like the back of a bus?

If the stipend is large enough, most men would gladly take such a woman. Cool

Pray that the men are disease-free.

Yeah I mean in female brothels they never turn down any guy no matter how repulsive he might be (I'm assuming here), so wouldn't the male brothel have to do the same?

All women would be welcomed at the brothel if they brought a cash-saturated purse/wallet with them. Hairy, fat, bald...makes no difference as long as the cash is GREEN!

Shocked

Personally, I would make the initial thrust, think of England and ride the ripples.

To be serious for a moment, I cannot ever imagine using such a service.

For a whole plethora of reasons, some of which I will go into here.

One is that, after having a lot of experience of prostitutes as clients, I really believe (though I get shouted down by political friends over this one, and may well be similarly shouted down here) that people working in that field are almost always (I say that to allow for possibilities I have not actually come across) there because of either experiences that have destroyed, or greatly compromised, their self esteem...often sexual, emotional etc. abuse OR becuause they are addicts. (Or, in third world countries, because they are hungry).

This is so, I believe, even with the ones who say they are in it in a coolly calculated way because it is a good way to earn money (I have worked with a few highly political prostitutes who strongly push that view, since they are working to get prostitution seen as being like any other job, with decent wages and conditions, and proper employment practices. I strongly support their political agendum, but I KNOW they are bullshitting about their reasons for doing the job.)

I also believe it does harm emotionally and psychologically to people working in the industry.

I am not happy to support an industry of this kind, therefore. I am happy for hungry folk to get money....but I would rather attempt to support them in other ways.

Also, on a personal level, I find having a lot of physical attention being given to me because I am paying for it, very uncomfortable...eh hairdressers' attentions. The notion of having someone paid to find me sexy is disgusting to me!!!!!

I imagine that, as with men, disabled women might find male brothels a great service, though.

And, I have known a woman who had lost a lot of sexual confidence and found any non paid sex to involve emotional entanglement which she did not want, who used a male prostitute regularly.

So it goes,

I was hoping that more women would share their opinion about the potential of a male brothel.

Frankly, I can think of more enjoyable ways to spend my money.

Male strippers bore me--as do the women who "love" them.

Coming of age in the '60's and Single Again in the '70's, I'm not a stranger to no-strings sex. I know that some men have much more talent and enthusiasm for love-making than other men do.

In general, women are much cleverer than men in "reading" social situations including other peoples' reactions.

I'd be very aware that "I paid for this guy's time. What is he thinking?" I'd be evaluating his performances as a fancy man as well as his prowess as a stud.

If the "service" was satisfactory, I'd be unwilling to shower and get dressed and head out to the brothel parking lot to drive home.

If the service was not satisfactory, I'd not enjoy insisting on Value for Money.

I have no emotional necessity to have my ashes hauled on a regular basis for my psychic health.

As I said before, there are so many ways to spend recreational money--why would I waste it.

Would a male brothel succeed?

My answer is the same as for most other service businesses....it all depends on how it is marketed.

I can see a real market for it, though. I think there are plenty of women who would pay for safe, recreational sex with handsome men...especially if they don't have a current relationship.

I think the point would be about not just getting any man, but getting exactly the one you want. Thats a luxury even for (most) women...

That'd be another thing not to have to worry about ... I guess you'd be paying for the no-worries factor.

dunno, nimh. are the female brothels famous for no-worries factor? i doubt i would ever trust a guy from a brothel is healthy, not even if he waved some medical examination paper in front of my face.

Are they not legal in Holland, and hence subject to strict health regulations?

I'd still be using condoms, meself, though.

I suppose, people working in brothels are the best medical looked persons you can meet due to their obligatory check-up as well as for their own security (being healthy is - so to say - part of their job).

Brothels are not only legal the Netherlands, Deb, but in a couple of more countries as well.
Prostitutes are paying taxes here, get health insurance as well as old age pension ...

Yes, it is when you're young and relatively attractive and living in a large city! But what about women who are older...and/or those who aren't attractive...and/or who live in small communities where there aren't many available men? Or, oh, lotsa other reasons I can think of, such as the guarantee that they'd never bother you later. Rolling Eyes

I do think there's a market there...but they'd have to convince women it's safe and private.

Do you think that women, in general, will seek and are willing to pay for casual sex with no strings? It would seem to me that the woman who has to go this route (for the reasons eva stated above) is the very same woman who has the need to turn a casual encounter into a 'relationship' and become, at the very least, possessive. That wouldn't be good for business...

First time I noticed this thread. I've done a little thinking about this.

I'm good with the idea of a male brothel if you were so inclined, in the same way that I wish women were able to stop in any bar by themselves and have a drink and not have to think about if someone's going to come on to her. I don't mean chic little café's where a lady can sip a glass of wine and gaze at the blvd, discreetly turning down a perfectly nice man's subtle overture. I mean stopping in for a quick snort and not having a trucker who won't take no for an answer ogling your breasts. In other words they should be able to go where they want, whether it be for a drink or sex, and not feel uncomfortable about it.

Another positive is that a woman can go somewhere where she feels safe. She can be very confident the man isn't going to get rough with her and hurt her.

That's the one thing I don't understand about female prostitutes. The fact that you go off with someone who is a complete stranger to you. For me that would feel like walking to the death chamber. Sure, most men just want the sex, but there are the others.

Anyway, all the other pluses, safe sex, getting to pick what you want, etc.

For me though, I'm not sure if it would work well.
First, I can just imagine looking over the available men, and not really being attracted to any of them. But, I don't happen to like the looks of what most women consider attractive.

If I did choose someone, I know by the end of the time with him I would have developed some type of emotional attachment. That is unless he had a really bad personality, or was stupid, then I'd be disappointed in the whole thing. Kinda a Catch 22.

I found one section in eoe's article particularly interesting. The part that was talking about women hooting and hollering over male strippers. I really don't get that.

If a man goes to a strip club, he doesn't squeal and scream and jump up and down watching the pretty ladies. He sits and watches and looks.

Personally I think most of the women who are at a male strip club are just doing what's expected of them because they're at a bachelorette party and they're supposed to scream. What do you think?

When I see a man that arouses me, I look.

This would be cool to open this discussion up to more women. Very interesting indeed.

In Sodom on the Thames, Sex, Love, and Scandal in Wilde Times (Morris B. Kaplan, Cornell University Press, 20005) Kaplan writes about upper-class male brothels in London, e.g. a male brothel in London in 1889-1890.
