We, typically, tend to both under and over estimate the influence of individuals as respects world events.
In this case, I think there is over-estimation in the sense that his vision cannot endure beyond his life.
Sharon in ways both good and bad has been a lion of Israel, but the course he has set for his country does not require him to be at the reigns.
What Sharon has provided Israel is a true Third Way. Not absolute militancy, and not absolute appeasement.
Somewhere along the line, Sharon developed the brilliant idea (perhaps someone else did and he adopted it - who cares?) of disengagement.
I don't see how any post-Sharon leadership can do anything but follow in his footsteps.
