(LordE, have you read "Into the Heart of Borneo" by Redmond O'Hanlon? It's the kind of travel book you'd write, I think. Heartily recommended if you haven't yet.)

OOH! Thanks Soz, I'll give him a go. I love off the wall travel books.

I mentioned Paul Merton on the previous page. If you go to.....

you will see a little button that says "push me". Keep pushing it and you will see that he is my kind of guy.

You'll probably end up with either a link to Bill Clinton or George Best, methinks.

What was it, Phoenix, I dunno!

The "who are my people?" question is a hard one. I've been putting in stuff that I'd love to see people talking about -- like, "Oooh, you like Jhumpa Lahiri?! Do you think she's a better short-story writer or novelist?" or whatever. But a much of what I actually most like to read here is varieties of information I'd never heard of before, and pretty hard to come up with a keyword for that.

Quote:
Here (Kurt) Russell plays Steven Post, an ambitious young mailroom boy at the fictional television network UBC. Steve has lots of ideas about how to improve the station's programming and his latest is the can't-fail "Abraham Lincoln's Doctor's Dog." But the station's manager Francis X. Wilbanks (Joe Flynn, Russell's semi-nemesis dean from the Dexter Riley movies) doesn't take any of Steve's ideas seriously.

Soz-The deal is to put together a number of ideas, so that a movie, TV show or even an internet thread can't fail. According to the theory, everyone is interested in stories about Lincoln, doctors, and dogs. So, if one writes a thread called, "Lincoln's Doctor's Dog", the thread can't miss!

Which reminds me of an old groaner of a story. A student was asked to write an essay. It had to contain religion, sex, royalty, and mystery. He came up with,

"Goddammit, said the Queen. Pregnant again. I wonder whodunnit???"
