Im trying to look for the burial place of a family member.
All Ive got is a name, a rough idea of where they were buried and a rough date(rangeing over 5 years)
Ive looked on the net about census's and the Family Record Centre.
ANy ideas where else I can try.Im in the UK.
Thanks
Well, you might try various cemetery and interment listings...sort of a deeper, in depth google or alta vista search (or some other search engine) and also check a burial index or the such in the U.K. Perhaps a geneology site would be able to connect you to some information.
One spot is
Cemeteries and Records or to narrow that down for the United Kingdom there is
Cemeteries of England-Cemetery Records (this second is just a sub-section of the first). I realize this is not a huge help but maybe it'll be enough to get you started. Good luck in finding what you are searching for.
Seeking relatives
Would Somerset House keep this kind of record?
Have a word with the records office at Kew.
Assuming it's in an Anglican churchyard, I would also write to some vicars in the area. Good luck.
I don't know at what time those relatives died and what they did.
But, might well be, you find them mentioned in some sources stored at the
UK data archive or perhaps the websites of the
National Archives can give some further help.
Thanks, Im trying the 1837 site.
I have also found a place in London called the Family Record centre that holds a load of records so I may go there and search through the books.
She was only little when she died.
Grrr, no joy.I even typed in the name and info I had on someone I knew existed, names dates etc, looked for birth certificates and marriage certificates but I couldnt even get that!!
I've used it and it does work, you have to register and get credits as far as I know?
Ok, Ive registered, just have to check with credit card owner for permission.
Thanks
What am I doing wrong??
I bought some units and typed in my birth information and the only result that came up was male!!!
Thanks Foxy, got some very relevant info, 90% match.
Thanks again.
Glad it helped, I haven't used it for a little while, but I remember having trouble when I first used it, eventually it returned the answer I was looking for, but not without a struggle...
It was abit of a pain trying to load up the right formatty thing to actually see the pages, but I used a better computer than mine and my bosses helped, trawled through 10 years worth and saw the one and only match.
Thanks.
hehe, just found out my nans birthplace back in 1912 and the maiden name of her Mother.
Stupid question
After the info I have found on my relative it then states 'volume' and 'page'.
Does that mean the info I have seen is like an index and the volume and page then go onto more information, like a birth/death certificate?
Where would these volumes be held?
I would assume they would be held in your local records office (?)
But whether or not they contain any more information than what you have already seen, I couldn't tell you.
I contacted the site to ask what the volume and page refered to, they sent me a link to an American site, which didnt help me at all!!
Though i have contacted the council register office of the place where my relatives death was registered, a nice lady replied and said she would look in the records for me.
Still waiting.
