Brother Raul,

May Allah reward you Jannah for the posts you made.

Let's say you suddenly found out that there was no Allah and no life after death.

Would you see these deaths as more tragic than you do now?

A death is always a tragic event for me, this is human nature.
Secondly, there is no doubt that Allah (the Arabic word for God) almighty exists and that there is life after death. There is proof for both facts.

Eorl wrote:
That reasoning seems backwards to me Raul-7. Sure it would be nice if everyone get what they deserved...but how does the desirability of something make it likely to be true?

First, I appreciate that you consider it to be nice if everyone get what they deserved. However, I do not appreciate the word "backwards" used to describe the correct and logical reasoning of brother Raul.
Secondly, the desirability of something does not necessarily make it true. But, when this "something" is told by the One who always says the truth (God), through people who always say the truth (the Messengers of God), it is undoubtedly true.
Thirdly, do you see, Eorl, how the Universe is extraordinarily made? everything is superbly well organised, the truth governs every aspect in the Universe "We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends."[Glorious Qur'an 15:85]. If you study your body, everything in it is well organised, every part of it (brain, heart, lungs...) plays a specific, well defined role. The truth governs the functioning of every aspect of the human body.
Similarly, everything in our life is governed by the truth (do you know that one of the names of almighty God is "Al-Haqq", which means "The Truth"?). And God decrees only what is good (if an event seems to be "bad" for us, it's because in our limited knowledge we don't comprehend the wisdom behind it), and since "everyone get what they deserved" is a good thing, it is true.

Eorl wrote:
How does it teach you to treat atheists like me

I will congratulate you because you have accepted the first part of the "Shahada" (you can read the Shahada in my signature), because you believe in the first part of the Islamic creed "there is no god". Our job is to prove "but Allah" to you.

Come on Muslim1. You know very well this is an idealistic pipedream !

Islam is the ideal and perfect way of life for human beings, because it is the way of life, the religion chosen by God (Allah) for us: "The Religion in the sight of Allah is Islam (submission to His Will)"[Glorious Qur'an 3:19]

Sexual difference is perhaps THE major preoccupation of Islam ! In some places women were recently beaten for venturing out of their homes without their male minders. One news item reported young girls had perished in a hostel fire when the male fire fighters were forbidden to enter because the girls were inappropriately dressed !

Then could you please tell me why women are converting (reverting) to Islam in large numbers?
Would you mind telling me Why did 30000 women in Switzerland convert to Islam in recent years?
30000 swiss women convert to Islam

According to "The Almanac Book of Facts," the population of women converting to Islam increased 137% within the past decade.
In the US, for every 1 male convert to Islam, 4 females convert to Islam.

Your explanation of Islamic infighting shows that Islamic tribalism is no different to any other. Indeed the pipedream of the so-called "brotherhood of Islam" even lacks sufficient coherence to coordinate its efforts between neighbouring states. ( My Egyptian friend tells me, Arabs are more suspicious of each other than they are of Israel !).

Islam came to stop the tribalism that was widespread in Arabia, and succeeded in that. Can you show me in the Holy Qur'an and in the authentic teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) where "Brotherhood in Islam" is "incoherent"?
"Brotherhood in Islam" is a fact. God almighty says: "The Believers are but a single Brotherhood"[Glorious Qur'an 49:10]
"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you."[Glorious Qur'an 49:13]

And what your Egyptian friend says is not necessarily true, but what his, your and my Creator Allah says is THE truth. "Allah tells (you) the Truth, and He shows the (right) Way."[Glorious Qur'an 33:4]

Let's now return to the subject of the thread, The Hajj:

The Hajj, which is graced by Allah's acceptance, has a lasting and observable effect on the pilgrim. Hajj is the perfection of one's faith, since it has in it all the qualities of the other forms of worship. Hajj combines both the physical, monetary and spiritual aspects of worship in Islam, such as Salaat (prayer), which the pilgrim offers in the Kaa'ba, the House of Allah.
If a person performs a Hajj for the sake of Allah, he/she returns from the pilgrimage sinless.
May Allah accept our deeds an forgive our sins, Amen.

And Allah knows best.

Nonsense.

Present your "proof" please.

Muslim 1

I use "coherence" in the sense of "holding together" - not "rational".

I note that you do not contest my references to news reports
of the sexual discrimination in Islam, yet you offer instead a news report about women recruits from a Muslim source !

"According to the "NZZ am Sonntag" newspaper, an organisation for Muslim women estimates that there are approximately 30,000 women converts to Islam in Switzerland."

With "logic" like this what hope do you have of establishing your intellectual credibility in a world understandably critical and fearful of your medieval dogma ? And even if your own citation were factual how would you counter the proposition that "converts" to Islam usually come from other religions in the same way that drug addicts move from weaker to stronger drugs ?

BTW Does the "sinless status" of Hajj pilgrims extend to undetetected criminals ? If so, on return to an Islamic country would that status be sufficient to protect them from later prosecution?

muslim1,

I was hoping you would answer my questions, but you didn't.

You just responded with the usual religious rhetoric.

Surely you are capable of imagining that you found out there were no gods and no afterlife.

If that happened do you think you would see the pilgrims deaths as more tragic or less...or the same?

My other question...I am a proud atheist, how am I to be treated by muslims? How would my treatment vary in various parts of the muslim world?

Yes, I would also like to see proof of your "facts".

This is an intriguing question. I'd be interested to find this out as well.

Rhanks Muslim1, you have done a great job answering questions on this forum, and may Allah reward you il Firdows.

A person goes to Hajj to get rid of all his sins; and if Allah accepts his/her Hajj they will return home like the day their mother bore them (there is a more complete verse to this). One way to know Allah has accepted your Hajj is that you become a more complete muslim when you return, and you don't return to your sinful ways.

Fresco and flushd, this depends on the nature of the crime. Of course most muslim countries don't follow Islamic law due to international scrutiny, only the KSA does but not completely. But I'm sure they would forgive him/her depending on the crime and if they believe he/she has truly changed onto the path of guidance.

Eorl: Allah rewards anyone who dies in the sake of Allah with the highest rank in heaven, so you should be happy for the ones that died because they are guaranteed a place in heaven.

And there is proof of the afterlife, when a person dies they have two judgements. One in his/her grave and on the day of Judgement. I did have proof of this. I had an audio tape where Russian geogolists were conducting tests in an area and stumbled onto to an old cemetery. What was surprising is that they found the temperature there to be 3 times (18000K) the temperature of the sun (no they did not drill into the lower lithosphere).

What a shame the tape went missing. We could have had it analysed for cries of anguish and gnashing of teeth !

Exactly when and where did this occur ? I've searched Google.

I have followed this thread with great interest, and great amusement. I find it particularly ironic because christians here at this site complain that they are the targets of special criticism, and that other confessions are exposed to the same scrutiny. This thread gives the lie to that canard.

As for the audio tape to which Raul refers, it's a hoax.

The Snopes article on "the well to hell" states that it is a favorite canard of evangelical christians. I have sent them an email to point out that Muslims fall for that claptrap, as well.

Here's an idea! Why don't you get hold of some lions and let them loose in a stadium with some of these teeming Christians? Then you can toss in a few Muslims as well! Why didn't anyone think of that before?

The bigotry of some self-aggrandised "intellectuals"
leaves the average bible-basher, and even, I dare say, most Inquisitors, for dead!

Hajj is just around the corner, it coincides around Christmas this year. Anyone have any questions or comments regarding it I could answer?

Here's a letter from Malcom X that, IMHO, was very touching especially considering the time of the era he was in.

THE PILGRIMAGE TO MAKKAH

When he was in Makkah, Al-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz wrote a letter to his loyal assistants in Harlem... from his heart:

"Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.

"I have been blessed to visit the Holy City of Mecca, I have made my seven circuits around the Ka'ba, led by a young Mutawaf named Muhammad, I drank water from the well of the Zam Zam. I ran seven times back and forth between the hills of Mt. Al-Safa and Al Marwah. I have prayed in the ancient city of Mina, and I have prayed on Mt. Arafat."

"There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and non-white."

"America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem. Throughout my travels in the Muslim world, I have met, talked to, and even eaten with people who in America would have been considered white - but the white attitude was removed from their minds by the religion of Islam. I have never before seen sincere and true brotherhood practiced by all colors together, irrespective of their color."

"You may be shocked by these words coming from me. But on this pilgrimage, what I have seen, and experienced, has forced me to rearrange much of my thought-patterns previously held, and to toss aside some of my previous conclusions. This was not too difficult for me. Despite my firm convictions, I have always been a man who tries to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experience and new knowledge unfolds it. I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must go hand in hand with every form of intelligent search for truth."

"During the past eleven days here in the Muslim world, I have eaten from the same plate, drunk from the same glass, and slept on the same rug - while praying to the same God - with fellow Muslims, whose eyes were the bluest of blue, whose hair was the blondest of blond, and whose skin was the whitest of white. And in the words and in the deeds of the white Muslims, I felt the same sincerity that I felt among the black African Muslims of Nigeria, Sudan and Ghana."

"We were truly all the same (brothers) - because their belief in one God had removed the white from their minds, the white from their behavior, and the white from their attitude."

"I could see from this, that perhaps if white Americans could accept the Oneness of God, then perhaps, too, they could accept in reality the Oneness of Man - and cease to measure, and hinder, and harm others in terms of their 'differences' in color."

"With racism plaguing America like an incurable cancer, the so-called 'Christian' white American heart should be more receptive to a proven solution to such a destructive problem. Perhaps it could be in time to save America from imminent disaster - the same destruction brought upon Germany by racism that eventually destroyed the Germans themselves."

"Each hour here in the Holy Land enables me to have greater spiritual insights into what is happening in America between black and white. The American Negro never can be blamed for his racial animosities - he is only reacting to four hundred years of the conscious racism of the American whites. But as racism leads America up the suicide path, I do believe, from the experiences that I have had with them, that the whites of the younger generation, in the colleges and universities, will see the handwriting on the walls and many of them will turn to the spiritual path of truth - the only way left to America to ward off the disaster that racism inevitably must lead to."

"Never have I been so highly honored. Never have I been made to feel more humble and unworthy. Who would believe the blessings that have been heaped upon an American Negro? A few nights ago, a man who would be called in America a white man, a United Nations diplomat, an ambassador, a companion of kings, gave me his hotel suite, his bed. Never would I have even thought of dreaming that I would ever be a recipient of such honors - honors that in America would be bestowed upon a King - not a Negro."

"All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the Worlds.

Sincerely,

Al-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X)

(From the AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X with assistance from Alex Haley, the author of ROOTS)

Malcolm X saw and experienced many positive things. Generosity and openheartedness were qualities which were impressed on him by the welcome which he received in many places. He saw brotherhood and the brotherhood of different races and this led him to disclaim racism and to say: "I am not a racist... In the past I permitted myself to be used... to make sweeping indictments of all white people, the entire white race, and these generalizations have caused injuries to some whites who perhaps did not deserve to be hurt. Because of the spiritual enlightenment which I was blessed to receive as the result of my recent pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca, I no longer subscribe to sweeping indictments of any one race. I am now striving to live the life of a true Sunni Muslim. I must repeat that I am not a racist nor do I subscribe to the tenets of racism. I can state in all sincerity that I wish nothing but freedom, justice and equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people."

(The preceding material was excerpted from The Autobiography of Malcolm X quoted in an article written by the Institute for Islamic Education.

The 'teeming Christians' on this forum (None of whom seem to want to visit posts on their own religion, i.e is Jesus God? or Christianity - True or Not) will be very surprised to learn that the pilgrimage (hajj), which consists of Muslims circumambulating around the sacred stone (i.e., the Ka'bah) in Makkah, had been performed by many prophets, even by Israelite prophets.

Jacob, on his way to Padan-aram, saw a vision and built the next morning a pillar of stone which he called Beth-EI, i.e. the House of the Lord (Genesis 28:18- 19).

Years later the same Prophet, Jacob, was ordered by Allah to go to Bethel (Genesis 35:4, 14-15). Jacob removed all of the strange gods prior to going there. Later, Prophet Muhammad also removed all idols around the sacred stone (i.e., Ka'bah in Makkah).

The children of Israel, under Samuel, swore in Mizpeh to destroy their idols if they won against the Philistines (I Samuel 7).

The whole nation of Israel assembled in Mizpeh when Samuel was appointed king of Israel (I Samuel 10).

It is obvious now that there is no Mizpah left in the world, except the oldest one in the Holy City of Makkah built by Abraham and his son Ishmael, from whom later Prophet Muhammad arose. Muslims are really the followers of all prophets.
