Win XP sp 2

1. I have run system restore, i recieve a report that;

Restoration is incomplete.
your computer cannot be restored to system checkpoint.
no changes have been made to your computer.

any ideas what is going on?

I run regular spywear checks alternating between spywear blaster, spybot, pest patrol (active protection), ewido, and adaware and anti virus programs symantec (active protection) and online scans from several of the suggestions on this board.

2. I have a program folder called "accelleration", stopsign firewall products from eAcceleration corp which spybot suggests is spywear but is unable to remove even after restart. i have tried to remove this programs folder manually however when i attempt to delete i am told "cannot delete ssfwmon, access is denied, make sure the disk is not write protected and that the file is not in current use"

how can i remove this program?

In normal mode there are 4 user icon
in safe mode there are 2 user icons
Whilst in safe mode >explorer
deleting tmp and temporary internet files for each user
Temporary internet files>content.IE5>c513sp2z i chose not to delete desktop.ini and thumbs.db
as above for each user

C/documents and settings/owner is not accessible access is denied ( I am the owner and have set my admin priveliges as high as possible. access was attempted from both user icons in safe mode.

In C/Temp for each user a number of folders exist these have not been deletes some folders have no files some have files that i deleted (GIF etc)
these foldershave variouse names hsperfdata_david, msohtml, default, cookies, quake.
cddb>11054336>cddb.db was not deleted
outlook logging>firstrun.log was not deletd

thanks for your time don I would like to sort the "Owner access denied" problem as well.

I have checked to ensure the "turn off system restore" box is unchecked

hi there dadpad,
Sorry about the delay,
I don't see any malware running under this user

Download WindPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

I don't see anything noteorthy in those logs - not much help from me, I'm afraid. You might wanna try to purge your restore points and start fresh; that often helps. You disable System Restore, run a Disk Cleanup, , reboot, re-enable Systrem Restore, and establish a fresh restore point.
