Problems with backing up data to CD Rom...(#@*^##)

Yes, I am doing it, or trying to.

Firstly, the CD Rom wizard told me that a number of disks were faulty....then, it consented to write on a disk.

As I was creating it, I checked it from time to time (ie, finished, ejected it, put it back in , and opened it)..all seemed fine.

This morning I put it back in to put some more data, and it will not open.

I appear to be able to WRITE to it....but either it will not open, or it has no data, or it THINKS it has no data.

Help anyone?????

Unless it is a rewritable CD you can't add more data to it after you first write to it.

If you want to append data to a rewritable CD then you probably had to tell it that when you first wrote to it so it wouldn't close the CD.

What program are you using to write to CD?

It is a bit odd that it could read from it yesterday and can't today. If you were using multiple CDs, are you sure you put in the one you wrote to?

They're cheap and easy to use.

Your CD problem tends to be pretty common if you have low-quality CDs. I'm sure they all look the same to you, but some are actually better than others. You could look here for a comparison between CD brands.

The CD quality, however, probably has nothing to do with your CD drive refusing to open, so it may be a problem with the software you're using to write to the CD. If the drive ever gets stuck again, wait for the cd to stop spinning, then take a paperclip and push it into the little hole on the face of your drive (it should be somewhere on the bottom, generally lower-right). BE CAREFUL when you do this, I've never actually tried it and I've heard about damage to the CD or CD drive if you don't actually wait for the CD to stop spinning.
