Hey!
I've got a Dell Dimension 8300. I have 512MB RAM and have used 3 of 4 slots. 2x 128MB and 1x 256MB. I was considering to buy 512MB more.
But then, i read in the manuall that for getting optimal system performance i should have 2x of one type and 2x of another.
My first thought was like this: 2x 128MB, 1x 256MB and 1x 512MB.
I don't know the word, but i think the 128MBs is in slot 1 and 3. And 256MB in slot 2.
Does this affect my computer performance much?
If as described, your setup is incorrect, does negatively impact performance and is less than optimal. Multiple RAM sticks best are deployed in complimentary pairs. Your machine uses PC3200/400MHz Non-parity, unbuffered DDR RAM, and
Specifically Calls For Paired Installation.
Your machine will support up to 2GB of System RAM; there is little difference between the price of 4 512MB sticks or 2 IGB sticks - if you wanna go to just one GB, I'd suggest you dump the 128MB sticks and pick up 3 more 256MB sticks, which actually would be not a whole lot more money than a single (and essentially unsuitable) 512MB stick.
WOW
LoL, thanks. Sometime i'd like to know that much about computers...!
Anyway, thanks
Hang in there a while, partner - break enough of 'em over time, and your experience base will grow, trust me
