I was wondering if anyone would know of a work around for the following problem or why this message appears? I am using the OS Windows XP and it seems to work fine for Windows 2000.

Internet Explorer - Security Warning

It's part of Attachment Execution Services. A new feature introduced in XP service pack 2.

In particular, the problem occurs when running programs from the Internet or network drives.

You can add the source to the "Local intranet" or "Trusted sites" zone in Internet Explorer to remove the warning.

If it still causes a problem, you can disable the zone checking feature.

Disabling it is unwise IMO - its there for a reason. Also, I would advise being absolutely certain the site and application associated are trustworthy before doing any enabling temporary workaround. Inconvenient perhaps, but then so is fastening one's seatbelt prior to setting off in a vehicle.

That feature of SP2 is a pain in the neck in a corporate environment. A properly configured client shouldn't need it.

Different issues for home users, obviously.

I tried adding the source to the "Local Intranet" and "Trusted Sites" zones, but that did not fix the problem. Also, tried changing some custom settings, but had no luck. Thanks for all of your help, let me know if you have any further suggestions!

I see your point, DD - with the caveat any properly configured corporate or other institutional environment will accommodate the purpose for such a private-user-focussed security feature with adequate safeguards of its own - thats pretty much the sorta thing IT departments are supposed to be all about.

And Microsoft just chucked it down everyone's throat with SP2. Now their butts are covered.

Of course, we bill by the hour, so maybe I shouldn't complain too much.... Laughing

I've seen that occasionally.

You can create a script to turn off the checking, run the application, and re-enable the checking.

But I'm not going to post such here. Sad
