Best university to study astronomy?

I'm not quite familiar with universities in America or anywhere else for that matter. Anyone knows any? Appreciate any help.

I want to be concentrating in astronomy as a serious student and then continue to graduate school. You know, make a career in it.

Here is a list of schools that offer Astronomy degrees. http://www.aas.org/education/deptaddress.html

I can't vouch for individual programs but the following from that list, in alphabetical order, are some of the best schools in the United States.

  • Boston University
  • University of California at Berkeley
  • University of California at Los Angeles
  • University of California at San Diego
  • California Institute of Technology
  • Carnegie Mellon University
  • University of Chicago
  • Columbia University
  • Cornell University
  • Dartmouth College
  • Harvard University
  • Howard University
  • University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
  • Johns Hopkins University
  • University of Maryland (College Park)
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • University of Michigan at Ann Arbor
  • Michigan State University
  • University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill)
  • Northwestern University
  • Penn State University
  • University of Pennsylvania
  • Pomona College
  • Princeton University
  • Rice University
  • Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
  • State University of New Jersey, Rutgers
  • Stanford University
  • Swarthmore College
  • University of Texas at Austin
  • Tufts University
  • Vanderbilt University
  • Vassar College
  • University of Virginia
  • Washington University in St. Louis
  • Wellesley College
  • Wesleyan University (Connecticut)
  • Williams College
  • University of Wisconsin at Madison
  • Yale University

Whether their individual Astronomy programs are any good is a thing you will need to research on your own.
