i installed this computer by myself.
not so long ago, i was able to play dvd on this sony cd-rw crx300e.
recently, when i put in a dvd in, the computer will tell me that there is no cd in the machine.
i can play regular music cd or data cd in the cd-rw, but not dvd.
it worked briefly yesterday, then it stopped working again.
i suppose that i need to get a dvd decoder, but i don't know where to get the free version. i don't need any fancy ones, i just want it to play dvd.
thanks.
You will have to buy a DVD decoder. The same thing happened to me a month ago. I bought the Sonic CinePlayer at
http://www.sonic.com/products/Consumer/CinePlayer/Decoder/. See if that works and good luck.
I would suggest making sure your Windows is fully up to date, and that you visit the drive vendor's Support & Download pages, get the latest drivers/software package for your DVD ROM/CD-R/RW drive and install them. Using a good (around $20 US) DVD cleaning disk prolly wouldn't be a bad idea, either.
