Hello. I hope some one can help me with a problem I am having with my wireless DSL set up.

I have Yahoo DSL and a Net Gear Rangemax wireless router running on Windows XP.

My problem is that once or twice a day at least I am unable to connect to the internet and have to turn off the router, the DSL connection, and re-boot my computer to be able to connect.

Can any one help me fix this problem?

Thanks.

Re: Wireless DSL problem
Mine does the exact same thing and the only thing that I haven't ruled out yet it vulnerabilities in my routers CBOS. I was going to check to make sure that I have all of the latest firmware updates for my router and see if that solves my problem. I'll let you know.

By the way, everybody that I know with DSL service is having that problem.

Re: Wireless DSL problem
Well, it's not the firmware. I just upgraded my firmware and then spent 20 minutes trying to get my internet light to go green.

Mine always seems to go down early in the morning. Does yours always seem to go down around the same time of day? I guess I will call my provider on Monday and see what they have to say about it.

It goes down at all different times of the day. I tried to log in to my router at the address that is printed on the bottom of my router. I used the user name and password provided by NetGear and the password didn't work.

Some one from the Geek Squad suggested that the problem may be a security time out to prevent hacker access. They suggested that if I went in to the router that there was a line of code that I could switch to off to keep the router from timing out.

I have also read on other boards that many people are having issues with the NetGear router and that it seems to be that NetGear is the problem.

I did not have issues with my DSL connection until I installed the wireless router that is for sure.

Mine is an ActionTec wireless router from Qwest DSL, But I have it hooked up with an Ethernet cable. I haven't completely ruled out malicious attacks, as I have no virus protection software installed on my machine. If someone doesn't help you out by Monday, I will let you know what Qwest tells me. I have a hunch that these phone companies are just providing unstable lines for some areas.

I called the phone company and they couldn't seem to help me. She was telling me stupid things like check to make sure that all of your phones have the DSL filters plugged into them, which doesn't make sense to me.

I have installed both Norton Internet Security and Norton SystemWorks and it found that my system was already virus free and had a healthy registry, and I'm still having down time.

I'm convinced that it is a faulty DSL line. And the phone company isn't going to repair these lines unless more customers complain. If we were T3 customers paying $1k every month, you can bet they would be all over it. They would be out there stringing new fiber on those telephone polls.
