First, I installed the forum on the / directory and I decided to moved the forum into the /forum directory since I wanted to add a content on the main page.

how can I setup the redirection inorder to avoid traffic loss and duplicate content?

You can't have people view the main page and redirect them to the forum page at the same time.

Make a choice. If you want them to read the main page content then have a prominent link to the forum page, if not use a redirect:

I already added a link from the main page to the forum.

my question is, how can I redirect the old threads into the /forum directory inorder to prevent duplicate content and traffic loss..

I am using the seo mod from this forum..
