And what happened with the boxes of books?
Well, I bid on one and got a counter offer, then I didn't accept that as I started in with the usual set of qualms. It was pretty interesting, in a neat neighborhood - however, quite far from my pals.
The flaws started to add up after I had bid on it. I bid because it was the most solid house for the money that I'd seen so far. But... the bathroom was minute. The yard was, believe it or not, too large. No garage, so I'd have to build one or a carport. Not that big a deal to me, given my work, but still... it costs money. It has a great view of the Sandia mountains from the front yard; great neighborhood (to me), re architectual styles and level of individuality; close to grocery stores and lots of services, many bus routes if I ever have driving troubles.
Today I'll see a place that we've driven by, of near opposite description.
More later.
Good luck in your search, Osso, Too small a bathroom; too big a yard are flaws. But the lack of a car-port or garage? How important is that?
If you play your cards right, you can stay with Dys and Diane indefinitely.
By the way, I am off tomorrow for Portland OR. Looking forward to seeing that city again. Any A2Kers there?
Boomerang is from Oregon.
Mac, the books are still in the post office. I just saw the inside of my rental storage unit this morning and am not sure if there is room left there or not. Anyway, I have a few weeks to lurch them to another spot.
I have all these small chores... gotta get a local dog tag for Pacoo soon, for example. Don't want people shipping him off to California..
not that my books are a small matter to me.
Oregon, Johnboy - you'd have been within a few rainclouds away from my old town.
OSSO! You made it! I'm glad you arrived safe and sound.
Happy New Year, old girl.
ELLPUS, m'boy, I wish you a fine new year as well!
Yard being too big means that there is more need for maintenance? Actually, if you need a garage, having a big yard is probably a plus, right?
the big yard is the back yard. anyway that house is no longer under consideration.
Not to be too straightforward but, hey, I know I am facing more eye surgery. I have just dealt with a fairly large yard. I know my limits. I would have had to deal with that one with a big native shrub planting along the perimeter and accumulating weeds; a large concrete patio; an overhead trellis over the large concrete patio. Big irrigation installation of drip or well timed regular sprinklers. Yadda yadda. Ca-ching with the dollars.
Let's say I can drive by those nifty modern architectural houses from time to time.
I'll say that to me the neighborhood is underpriced. Some not that interesting tract housing eisewhere is going for much more; strange pricing to me. Not to knock tract housing as I am going in that direction, but that house's neighborhood is a bit of a underloved gem re pricing.
I guess I should explain that I was born to be a remodeller if not architect and failed, yes, failed to catch on in time. Or to marry a guy who didn't think that was of negligible interest.
Tis a puzzlement, since to marry a contractor when you are a designer, or vice versa, is to volunteer for hell on wheels, unless you both are particularly ept together.
Your notion is well stated, osso. I hope you are able to find a place that is affordable and manageable, and where you are happy living. Please keep us posted.
There was a time not long ago when I was addicted to Realtor.com, so I decided this afternoon to indulge my curiosity and see what I could see... also noticed that about pricing, old and interesting priced much less than I expected while new and not-so-interesting was more than I expected. Saw a promising one built in 1932. But dunno what your price range is.
I'm certain that you have infinitely more resources than me plonking away at Realtor.com, but if if if for any reason I could be somehow helpful, let me know.
Hoping you find an absolute gem...
If conditions permitted, that large back yard could be the site of a separate constructed studio. My mouth waters at the thought of it. I've added two rooms to the back of my house. It was worth it but what a hassle. Good luck in your search, Osso.
Staying tuned for the next exciting instalments. So far, very good , osso!
Yes, it's like the serials of a soap opera--or perhaps an opera.

More like Osso's treasure hunt with Diane trotting along.
BBB
BBB - Diane trotting along?
You have an odd way of making some kind of put down on Diane or Dys fairly often It is not cute to me; please don't do it on my threads.
JLNobody, I cannot afford to add a studio building, unless I meat a wealthy lover who dotes on me, or win the lottery. Once in a while a house here comes with an outbuilding of some sort, but those houses are usually in a higher price range than mine now.
