i am the devil in your desert
i greet you in blue tongues
incantations of honey and myrrh
under false moons
i guide the blind
to join
our parasitic pharisees marching
across Afrika sowing
beads and superstition.
rabid politicians attack journalists;
eating the tongues to fight their diction.
Animal is a blessing to
the human condition
plants spun nets and weaves to
capture dew of sun and the heart of
stone laughs hard in remembering when jaguarmoon cut
the clouds and the rain.
i greet you in sorrow
we meddle in arts unknown
we have found our common blood
and broke it.
twice our cells revolted
and the winds burned
our bones to ash.

see him standing there, the one in the blue scarf
yes him. two years from now
we will be
isolated
quarantined
and kept under lock and key
him and i, caught in the
watchwork of misnomers.
Global paradigms shift our identity to genetic variations and fugues.
Your chromosomes and alleles have been tattooed in your bloodcell.
our language of
organic progamming
is a subtle machine.

we sit in coals
and breathe
in the myhrr.
bowls of palm wine
and strips of flesh
are exchanged.
stories are numbered
and fables dissected.
muttering of the first myth
before a great spirit,
before quetzacoatl broke his egg,
when yggdrasil bent as sapling,
jupiter sleeping,
we crept
along.
when we uncover the first Word
it will steal back the breath of language
and return us to clay and twigs.
it is our gift of stories
and the burden of words
the drop our human condition
to such arrogance
and pity.

lost in the deserts of prose
we mapped salvation from water
we kill our flesh to feed the spirit
our pain is tracing our heartbeat with thread
to suture any holes
mending our faith with stones and cornmeal.
we all share a fiction
and an end to this beginning.
